The KC-46s would replace the aging KC-135 tankers currently in service at Key Field.

The 186th ARW is one of the few military installations that can handle the new plane without needing to make major changes to a base.

The airfield is in a prime location in the vicinity of refueling tracks over the Southeastern United States and the Gulf of Mexico, enabling rapid servicing of Air Force and joint service aircraft fleets, including strategic communications aircraft.

The Meridian community already has infrastructure and support services in place that will benefit next generation air refueling capabilities.", 1, "2026-05-28T06:29:45Z", "2026-05-28T06:31:18Z"], ["https://benniethompson.house.gov/media/press-releases/congressman-bennie-g-thompson-announces-doj-grants-totaling-over-15-million", "Congressman Bennie G. The lack of communication can overwhelm law enforcement agents and public servants. As we continue to deal with a crisis on our border, an alert system like the one EMAP would establish is imperative,” said Congressman Guest.

The EMAP Act would fill the communication gap by requiring ICE and CBP to develop an alert system where State, Local, Tribal, and Territorial government authorities can receive information regarding the impending release of migrants. EMAP is designed to protect the identities of such persons and to alleviate privacy concerns from state and local government officials. Early notification to State, Local, Tribal, and Territorial municipalities would assist local communities in preparing for the arrival of migrants.

The EMAP Act would require ICE and CBP to create an email subscription system to alert authorities and provide information regarding the impending release of migrants into local communities, including the:

Number of migrants to be released

Number of migrants with known criminal histories

Initial destination of the migrants

Final destinations and where they intend to settle

The legislation would require ICE and CBP to give municipalities at least a 24-hour notice before releasing an alien into the United States.

Given that migrants in ICE custody are released by court order, ICE does not have the ability to control when and where migrants are released. Congress allocated $2.2 billion for the program, instructing the USDA to provide financial support to farmers, ranchers, and forest landowners who faced discrimination in USDA farm lending programs. Today, over 43,000 individuals nationwide will receive aid through the program, including over 23,000 current or former farmers receiving up to $500,000 and over 20,000 prospective farmers receiving up to $6,000.

Mississippi leads the nation with the highest number of recipients. Randy Feenstra (IA-04) and Senator Mike Crapo (R-ID) in a letter to Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Michael Regan urging the Biden administration to overturn its de facto electric mandate on trucks, tractors, buses, and semis.

The final rule is entitled “Greenhouse Gas Emissions Standards for Heavy-Duty Vehicles – Phase 3” and was published on April 22, 2024.

"The EPA's latest mandate on EVs will put further strains on our supply chain, burden the U.S. economy, and drive up costs nationwide," Ezell said. "The heavy hand of the Biden Administration continues to overstep into the lives of Americans at every turn. Americans should have the choice to drive and operate whichever vehicle benefits them and their business. I'm proud to join this bicameral group of colleagues in resisting the Biden Administration's overreach and working to return the U.S. to open and free markets."

“The Biden administration’s mandate that impacts all trucks, tractors, buses, and semis would strain our supply chains, hurt our farmers, harm our economy, and increase costs for every single American. On top of inflation, poor economic conditions, and other regulations, this de facto EV mandate on our truckers, manufacturers, farmers, and dealers will hike the cost of groceries, utility bills, and everyday goods that American families rely on. It’s also a deliberate attack on liquid fuels – including homegrown Iowa biofuels – that are vital to our energy, economic, and national security,” Feenstra said. “I’m glad that over 150 of our colleagues joined us on our mission to overturn this burdensome mandate and maintain choice for both manufacturers, truckers, and consumers alike. This rule represents yet another attempt by the Biden administration to give more power to bureaucrats in Washington, D.C., and I’m proud to lead the effort to oppose President Biden’s power grab. We must let the free market – not the heavy hand of government – work as intended.”

“Heavy-handed, top-down environmental policies do more harm than good. Regulations like these raise costs for Americans, harm farmers and small businesses and push our country toward greater dependence on China,”Crapo said. “We deserve a choice in the cars and trucks that we drive, especially when the consequences of these mandates are so detrimental to the economic success of families, businesses and rural communities.”

The lawmakers noted that, “This final rule, which encompasses heavy-duty vehicles ranging from delivery trucks and school buses to tractors and semis, would disrupt the heavy-duty truck industry by forcing the broad adoption of heavy-duty zero emission vehicles on an extremely aggressive timeline, despite these vehicles currently being less than 1% of sales. According to a recent study, it would cost nearly $1 trillion in infrastructure investment alone to fully electrify the U.S. commercial fleet, which does not include the expense of purchasing new semis. Additionally, the cost for an electric semi-truck averages over $400,000 while a comparable diesel Class 8 truck costs around $180,000 – meaning electric trucks cost an average of 122% more than a normal semi.”

“Our farmers and agricultural industry will be especially hurt by this new mandate. According to the latest agriculture census by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, there are 3,161,820 trucks (including pickups) on over 1.4 million farms and 3,784,743 tractors on over 1.5 million farms that would see higher equipment costs and tighter margins due to this misguided rule. These numbers also do not account for the small, independent truckers, trucking companies, and truck dealerships throughout the U.S. that will be impacted. Not only would this rule harm consumers, but it would also exacerbate consolidation by effectively forcing our small trucking companies out of business that cannot afford this hasty transition to electric or hydrogen powered trucks,” the lawmakers added.

The full letter can be found HERE.", 1, "2026-03-30T01:40:41Z", "2026-04-07T21:24:45Z"], ["https://benniethompson.house.gov/media/press-releases/former-january-6-committee-chairman-thompson-releases-statement-todays-lawless", "Former January 6 Committee Chairman Thompson Releases Statement on Today’s Lawless Supreme Court Decision on Presidential Immunity", "2024-07-01", "2024", "2024-07", "Democrat", "House", "MS", "Bennie G. For the last 50 years, the United States has highlighted a week each year for our EMS personnel and the important life-saving work they deliver twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, and 365 days a year.

The origins of emergency medical services can be traced to the beginning of America during the American War for Independence and the American Civil War, as well as in World War I and World War II. Mississippians have also made notable contributions to EMS efforts throughout history. Paul J. Rainey, who resided in Cotton Plant, Mississippi, sponsored and drove an ambulance with the famous Harjes Ambulance Corps in Europe during World War I. Jack Ruby from Olive Branch, Mississippi, drove an ambulance for the Army during World War II. We strongly urge you to withdraw it,” wrote the lawmakers.

“In addition to the fiscally irresponsible nature of this backdoor attempt to enact ‘free’ college, the administration continues to use borrowers as political pawns knowing full well these proposed actions are illegal. The Supreme Court has made it abundantly clear that there is zero authority to write-off federal student loans en masse last June when the Department’s ‘Plan A’ was ruled unconstitutional,” the lawmakers said.

The letter is sharply critical of the Biden administration for prioritizing dubious student loan forgiveness schemes while failing to properly implement the new Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) program. These continued delays prevent students and families from accessing crucial financial aid information as they choose the college they can afford to attend.

“Instead of exacerbating the problems of inflated college costs and low-value degrees, we urge you to withdraw this NPRM and work with Congress. It is past time that we fix our nation’s broken higher education financing system,” the lawmakers concluded.

U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-La.), ranking member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee, and U.S. Representative Virginia Foxx (R-N.C.), chairwoman of the House Education and the Workforce Committee, spearheaded the letter.

Read the signed letter here or below.

Dear Secretary Cardona:

The latest Notice of Proposed Rule Making (NPRM) proposed by your Department of Education (Department) on April 17, 2024, represents the latest in a string of reckless attempts to transfer as much as $1 trillion of student loan debt from those who willingly borrowed to those who did not or have already repaid their loans. We strongly urge you to withdraw it.

The Biden administration describes this regulation as “targeted relief,” yet the Department’s own estimates show the opposite. This is even broader than the Department’s first attempt: at an estimated price tag of $147 billion, taxpayers are being forced to take on the debt of nearly 28 million borrowers. Moreover, while the Department likely does not wish to highlight how much their proposal would help the wealthy, outside estimates show that borrowers eligible for “relief” under certain provisions in this proposal will have a typical income of over $300,000. Unfortunately, the Department did not include its own analysis of the distributional effect of these regulations.

In addition to the fiscally irresponsible nature of this backdoor attempt to enact “free” college, the administration continues to use borrowers as political pawns knowing full well these proposed actions are illegal. The Supreme Court has made it abundantly clear that there is zero authority to write-off federal student loans en masse last June when the Department’s “Plan A” was ruled unconstitutional.

Further, this regulation is only part of the Department’s “Plan B.” The Department notes that the long-anticipated regulation to “cancel” loans for borrowers facing “hardship”—a broad term defined under the NPRM to grant the Department full authority to cancel any loan it pleases—is still forthcoming. According to budget experts, those additional changes would bring the total cost of the Department’s “Plan B” to nearly $750 billion, at almost double the cost of “Plan A.”

“Plan B” hinges on creating these extensive regulations based on scant statutory text written in 1965. That text, which describes how the then Commissioner of Education at the Department of Health Education and Welfare could “enforce, pay, compromise, waive, or release any right, title, claim, lien, or demand, however acquired, including any equity or any right or redemption” under the Federal Loan Insurance Program. It is certain that drafters in 1965 through the last reauthorization in 2008, did not contemplate that these words would be used to cancel massive portions of student loan balances. This statute has no history of broad use by any previous Secretary and was previously deemed by this administration as less likely to hold up in court than “Plan A.”

While the administration dedicated resources needed to draft this proposal to benefit those who already were able to attend college, it simultaneously failed to competently implement the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA is a simple 36-question form that helps the nation’s neediest current and prospective college attendees understand what federal financial aid is available to them. Failure to make the FAFSA available to these prospective students on time will have life-long consequences for many young Americans. We already know, as of March 29, FAFSA completion for seniors in high school is down by 40 percent. Those who do not file will likely not attend college next year and maybe never will.

Instead of exacerbating the problems of inflated college costs and low-value degrees, we urge you to withdraw this NPRM and work with Congress. The "Residential Rooftop Solar for Low-Income Households" strategy targets the development of a residential rooftop solar leasing market in areas served by state’s investor-owned utilities, aiming to ensure savings for every low-income household while enhancing the local solar installer ecosystem. The second approach, "Multifamily Behind-the-Meter Solar for Low-Income Tenants," focuses on multifamily buildings, seeking to lower energy costs for low-income tenant households through strategic financial mechanisms and partnerships with local housing developers. All strategies hinge upon innovative financing, strategic partnerships, and HEC’s experience and expertise in serving disadvantaged communities in the state.", 1, "2026-03-30T01:40:41Z", "2026-04-07T20:47:55Z"], ["https://ezell.house.gov/news/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=413", "Wicker, Ezell Lead Resolution Marking Anniversary of the Establishment of the Seabees", "2024-04-23", "2024", "2024-04", "Republican", "House", "MS", "Mike Ezell", "E000235", "ezell.house.gov", "ezell", "https://ezell.house.gov/news/documentquery.aspx?DocumentTypeID=27", "scraper", "Washington, DC – U.S. Senator Roger Wicker (R-MS) and U.S. Representative Mike Ezell (R-MS-04) led a bipartisan, bicameral resolution recognizing the 82nd anniversary of the establishment of the United States Naval Construction Force, known as the “Seabees,” and thanking them for their service to our country. I’m proud to join Senators Cornyn and Murphy, along with Rep. Guest, to introduce bipartisan legislation that will address this emergency.”

“The current shortage of medical examiners puts public safety and public health at risk,” said Sen. Cornyn. “The U.S. must increase the current amount of forensic medical service providers to meet the needs of communities across the country, and this legislation would help medical providers recruit and train qualified individuals to enter the critically important field of forensic pathology.”

“The shortage of forensic pathologists poses a serious risk to our public health system. Across the country, autopsies are often delayed for months on end, preventing families from gaining important closure and hurting our ability to fight future health crises,” said Sen. Murphy. “Our bill tackles this problem head-on by providing funding, training, and support to attract qualified medical graduates to forensic pathology so that we have enough Board-Certified Forensic Pathologists to meet national demand.”

Background:

Medical examiners and coroners are a crucial part of America’s public health system and help identify causes of death, monitor evolving health challenges, and save lives. Staff shortages can delay autopsies and death certification for months, preventing families from gaining closure and hamstringing the medical community’s ability to fight the opioid epidemic and other health crises.

Currently, there are only about 800 full-time practicing forensic pathologists in the country, but the U.S. needs 1,500-1,800 to provide full national coverage. However, recruiting and retaining forensic pathologists is challenging because of the training required and the burdensome workload due to the ongoing shortage. The Strengthening the Medical Examiner and Coroner System Act would:

Incentivize qualified medical graduates to enter the practice of forensic pathology by funding forensic pathology fellowships across the country;

Provide support to accredited medical schools and forensic medicine service providers that operate forensic pathology fellowship programs;

Encourage qualified individuals to enter the field of medicolegal death investigation;

Fund forensic medicine service providers and toxicology laboratories who support forensic medicine service providers;

And expand pathways to train, educate, and certify medicolegal death investigators.

Congressman Michael Guest represents Mississippi's Third Congressional District.
