It has 288 cosponsors and was also endorsed by 44 members of the Caucus. H.R. 1175, the Craft Beverage Modernization and Tax Reform Act was introduced by Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX-21) and makes permanent the lower taxes, reduced compliance burdens, and fewer regulations to keep parity in the marketplace for the 5,300 breweries, 8,000 wineries, and 800 distilleries across the country. Without this, excise tax rates would return to those higher levels, raising costs for small businesses and consumers. H.R. 943, the Never Again Education Act was introduced by Rep. It has 297 cosponsors and was endorsed by 40 members of the Problem Solvers Caucus. In backing these four initiatives, the bipartisan Problem Solvers Caucus, led by Co-Chairs Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ-5) and Tom Reed (R-NY-3), have come together to build bipartisan consensus on policies that help our hardworking families, help our government work better, help develop our local economies, and help educate our children. These bills will provide real help to real people. From helping small business owners to benefit from necessary tax provisions to providing resources to teachers that will enable them to teach our children about the dangers of hate, these bills will greatly benefit the lives of many,said Problem Solvers Caucus Co-Chair Tom Reed.Finding the common ground on issues such as these and working together to find solutions is critical  that's why I'm proud that the Problem Solvers Caucus is overcoming the political divide and working to create positive change for the American people. The Problem Solvers Caucus continues to push bipartisan legislation forward, to achieve real results for the hardworking families we each represent and for residents all across the country,\"said Problem Solvers Caucus Co-Chair Josh Gottheimer.We are continuing to break through the gridlock to endorse legislation that can bring those on both sides of the aisle together. With this set of bill endorsements, we're ensuring that our children are educated about the horrors of the Holocaust and the repercussions of hate, that our government and postal services work better, and that we're spurring local economic development. Rep. Tom Suozzi said,The Problem Solvers Caucus' endorsement of these four initiatives proves that by working together with common purpose, we can bring about real positive changes in people's lives. Of particular importance to my constituency is the Never Again Education Act which will teach our nation's children the important lessons of the Holocaust and the horrific consequences of hate and intolerance. Due to some of the political posturing and partisan differences right now in Washington, the vast majority of the American people believe that Republicans and Democrats cannot come together to do anything positive. The group of Members of Congress, Republicans and Democrats, known as the Problem Solvers Caucus, once again, prove that notion wrong. I, along with colleagues from both sides of the aisle, am a co-sponsor of all four of these pieces of legislation that would benefit Americans from all walks of life. House leadership should bring these bills up for a vote as soon as possible,said Rep. Bill Johnson. Coastal Virginia is home to more than 45 breweries, wineries, and distilleries, which is why I am proud to be a cosponsor of the Craft Beverage Modernization and Tax Reform Act (H.R. 1175). This bill will ensure these local businesses receive tax relief so they can continue contributing to the local economy and producing the very best beer, wine, and spirits,said Rep. Elaine Luria. This package of bills makes it clear that, across issue areas and across party lines, our caucus is able to come together for real reforms that will help people across the nation,said Rep. Salud Carbajal.I am proud to have co-sponsored all of the bills on this list and I will continue pushing for legislation that helps our workers, supports local businesses, strengthens the knowledge of our students and uplifts our nation's families. It is great to see the Caucus come together on these bipartisan issues. These bills will deliver real results for the American people,said Rep. Brian FitzpatrickI am glad to see the Problem Solvers endorse this package of bills, and I look forward to voting in favor of them on the House floor. I'm proud that all four of these important, bipartisan bills have the endorsement of my colleagues and I in the Problem Solvers Caucus,said Rep. Dan Lipinski.I'm especially proud to support the Never Again Education Act and provide educators with the resources they need to emphasize the importance of the Holocaust and the horrific outcomes hate and intolerance can lead to. This will be a tremendous learning tool for our children. I'm proud to have such broad, bipartisan support for my legislation, including the endorsement of the Problem Solvers Caucus. My bill will allow local restaurants and retailers to write-off improvements so that they can make the investments that they need to keep their stores competitive and safe, hire more workers, and plan for the future,said Rep. Jimmy Panetta. As a co-sponsor of all four bills included in the endorsement package, I am happy to see this overwhelming bipartisan support. In particular, I am pleased about the support for H.R. 943, the Never Again Education Act. It is important that America's youth learn about the horrors of the past so they can ensure they are not repeated. Implementing the proper resources and curriculum needed to educate our students on the lessons and consequences of the Holocaust will do just that,said Rep. Don Bacon. Rep. Anthony Brindisi said,This package of bills includes key, bipartisan, pieces of legislation that will address real problems with real solutions. Whether it's cutting taxes, bolstering the Postal Service and education opportunities, or providing relief for small businesses, it is important to remember that members of both parties can work together to find commonsense solutions to improve everyday American's lives.\r\n\r\nThe Problem Solvers Caucus is a bipartisan group in Congress comprising 48 members  equally divided between Democrats and Republicans  who are committed to forging bipartisan cooperation on key issues. It has 288 cosponsors and was also endorsed by 44 members of the Caucus. H.R. 1175, the Craft Beverage Modernization and Tax Reform Act was introduced by Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX-21) and makes permanent the lower taxes, reduced compliance burdens, and fewer regulations to keep parity in the marketplace for the 5,300 breweries, 8,000 wineries, and 800 distilleries across the country. Without this, excise tax rates would return to those higher levels, raising costs for small businesses and consumers. A one-year extension of this Act was added onto the Appropriations package and passed the House earlier this week. It has 324 cosponsors and was endorsed by 42 Problem Solvers. H.R. 943, the Never Again Education Act was introduced by Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY-12) and would create a new grant program within the US Department of Education to provide teachers across the country the relevant resources, tools and training to teach school children about the Holocaust and the repercussions that hate and intolerance can have on our society. It has 297 cosponsors and was endorsed by 40 members of the Problem Solvers Caucus. In backing these four initiatives, the bipartisan Problem Solvers Caucus, led by Co-Chairs Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ-5) and Tom Reed (R-NY-3), have come together to build bipartisan consensus on policies that help our hardworking families, help our government work better, help develop our local economies, and help educate our children. These bills will provide real help to real people. From helping small business owners to benefit from necessary tax provisions to providing resources to teachers that will enable them to teach our children about the dangers of hate, these bills will greatly benefit the lives of many,said Problem Solvers Caucus Co-Chair Tom Reed.Finding the common ground on issues such as these and working together to find solutions is critical  that's why I'm proud that the Problem Solvers Caucus is overcoming the political divide and working to create positive change for the American people. The Problem Solvers Caucus continues to push bipartisan legislation forward, to achieve real results for the hardworking families we each represent and for residents all across the country,\"said Problem Solvers Caucus Co-Chair Josh Gottheimer.We are continuing to break through the gridlock to endorse legislation that can bring those on both sides of the aisle together. With this set of bill endorsements, we're ensuring that our children are educated about the horrors of the Holocaust and the repercussions of hate, that our government and postal services work better, and that we're spurring local economic development. Rep. Tom Suozzi said,The Problem Solvers Caucus' endorsement of these four initiatives proves that by working together with common purpose, we can bring about real positive changes in people's lives. Of particular importance to my constituency is the Never Again Education Act which will teach our nation's children the important lessons of the Holocaust and the horrific consequences of hate and intolerance. Due to some of the political posturing and partisan differences right now in Washington, the vast majority of the American people believe that Republicans and Democrats cannot come together to do anything positive. The group of Members of Congress, Republicans and Democrats, known as the Problem Solvers Caucus, once again, prove that notion wrong. I, along with colleagues from both sides of the aisle, am a co-sponsor of all four of these pieces of legislation that would benefit Americans from all walks of life. House leadership should bring these bills up for a vote as soon as possible,said Rep. Bill Johnson. Coastal Virginia is home to more than 45 breweries, wineries, and distilleries, which is why I am proud to be a cosponsor of the Craft Beverage Modernization and Tax Reform Act (H.R. 1175). This bill will ensure these local businesses receive tax relief so they can continue contributing to the local economy and producing the very best beer, wine, and spirits,said Rep. Elaine Luria. This package of bills makes it clear that, across issue areas and across party lines, our caucus is able to come together for real reforms that will help people across the nation,said Rep. Salud Carbajal.I am proud to have co-sponsored all of the bills on this list and I will continue pushing for legislation that helps our workers, supports local businesses, strengthens the knowledge of our students and uplifts our nation's families. It is great to see the Caucus come together on these bipartisan issues. These bills will deliver real results for the American people,said Rep. Brian FitzpatrickI am glad to see the Problem Solvers endorse this package of bills, and I look forward to voting in favor of them on the House floor. I'm proud that all four of these important, bipartisan bills have the endorsement of my colleagues and I in the Problem Solvers Caucus,said Rep. Dan Lipinski.I'm especially proud to support the Never Again Education Act and provide educators with the resources they need to emphasize the importance of the Holocaust and the horrific outcomes hate and intolerance can lead to. This will be a tremendous learning tool for our children. I'm proud to have such broad, bipartisan support for my legislation, including the endorsement of the Problem Solvers Caucus. My bill will allow local restaurants and retailers to write-off improvements so that they can make the investments that they need to keep their stores competitive and safe, hire more workers, and plan for the future,said Rep. Jimmy Panetta. As a co-sponsor of all four bills included in the endorsement package, I am happy to see this overwhelming bipartisan support. In particular, I am pleased about the support for H.R. 943, the Never Again Education Act. It is important that America's youth learn about the horrors of the past so they can ensure they are not repeated. Implementing the proper resources and curriculum needed to educate our students on the lessons and consequences of the Holocaust will do just that,said Rep. Don Bacon. Rep. Anthony Brindisi said,This package of bills includes key, bipartisan, pieces of legislation that will address real problems with real solutions. Whether it's cutting taxes, bolstering the Postal Service and education opportunities, or providing relief for small businesses, it is important to remember that members of both parties can work together to find commonsense solutions to improve everyday American's lives.\r\n\r\nThe Problem Solvers Caucus is a bipartisan group in Congress comprising 48 members  equally divided between Democrats and Republicans  who are committed to forging bipartisan cooperation on key issues. Butodds are the bill will stand little chance of passing in the Republican-controlled Senate.\nThis is a really important bill for the people of my district, said the legislation's sponsor, Rep. Thomas Suozzi (D-Glen Cove), in an interview. In the midst of all this turmoil in Washington, the fact that I could get a bipartisan bill passed is a real sense of satisfaction.\nThe bill was supported by Rep. Peter King (R-Seaford) and a few other Republican House members. It's aimedat revising the 2017 federal law that gavetax breaks to most middle-class families nationwide, the wealthy and corporations. To pay for it, the law capped how much taxpayers could deduct on their federal income tax returns for state and local taxes  often referred to as SALT.\nPresident Donald Trump proposed the 2017 legislationthat capped the deduction allowed for state income and local property taxes at $10,000. As a resultmany, Long Island residents as well as those in Westchester, Manhattan, New Jersey and several other northeastern and predominantly Democratic states,are paying more in federal income taxes.\nSuozzi's bill would be phased in and ease the burdenofTrump's tax measure for two years,when Democrats hope to control the White House and repeal the president'stax law. The bill would increase the allowable cap to $20,000 for couples filing jointly inthe 2019 tax year.\nUnder the bill, full deductibility for state and local taxes on federal income tax forms would be restored in the 2020 tax year. To replace the lost revenue, Suozzi said the bill would return the top individual income tax rate to 39.6%, which was cut to 37% under Trump's tax law, givingwealthy filers a break.\nIn some ways, you could call it the suburban relief act, said Lawrence Levy, executive dean of the National Center for Suburban Studies at Hofstra University. Unfortunately for the beleaguered taxpayers, there's not much of a chance of it going anywhere in the Senate, but at least it sets down a marker for the future and maybe boosts voter confidence that someone is at least trying to do something.\nTrump has indicated he would likely veto Suozzi's measure if it reached his desk. He blames states like New York for their high taxes that exceed the federal law's cap.\nKing noted that Trump, as a private citizen and taxpayer, opposed capping SALT in 1986 because it would hurt the states that work the hardest. New Yorkers pay far more into the federal government than the state receives back in aid and benefits.\nI'm really disappointed with my Republican colleagues, King said in the floor debate. One of the reasons why cities like New York and counties like Nassau and Suffolk had to raise property taxes is because for 50 years we've been subsidizing your statesNow, you're turning it into class warfare. What you are doing is undermining the middle class.\nKing said he doubts the bill will get traction in the GOP-controlled Senate, which approved the 2017 tax law. But he said Suozzi's bill could see new life as part of a deal on other measures.\nRep. Lee Zeldin (R-Shirley) voted against the bill. He had opposed the bill's provision that would raise the 37% top individual tax rate for taxpayers with incomes greater than $518,400 back to 39.6%.\nIt's important to remember that the only SALT deduction legislation that will ever provide relief is legislation that can be signed into law, and this bill which permanently raises taxes on individuals and small businesses is not it,\" Zeldin said.", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"], ["https://reed.house.gov/news/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=3032", "NATIONAL MILK PRODUCERS FEDERATION PRAISES TOM FOR HIS WORK ON USMCA TO HELP DAIRY FARMERS", "2019-12-19", "2019", "2019-12", "Republican", "House", "NY", "Tom Reed", "R000585", "reed.house.gov", null, null, "legacy", "NATIONAL MILK PRODUCERS FEDERATION PRAISES TOM FOR HIS WORK ON USMCA TO HELP DAIRY FARMERS \r\n   \r\n    \r\n       \r\n      \r\n  \r\n    \r\n      f \r\n      t \r\n      #\r\n      e\r\n      \r\n      \r\n    \r\n    \r\n      \r\n        Washington,\r\n        December 19, 2019\r\n      \r\n       \r\n    \r\n  \r\n  \r\n  \r\n  \r\n  \r\n  \r\n  \r\n    \r\n      \r\n      \r\n      This holiday season will be a bit brighter for America's dairy farmers as today's vote brings us one step closer to finalizing USMCA and securing a more certain future for the dairy industry. Almost 100% of all pass-through businesses have less than 100 employees.\nI support multiple active bills that would change the State and Local Tax deduction without raising taxes on individuals and small businesses.\nIt's important to remember that the only SALT deduction legislation that will ever provide relief is legislation that can be signed into law, and this bill which permanently raises taxes on individuals and small businesses is not it.\nIn my district, from Main Street to wineries on the North Fork, this is bad news for small businesses up and down Long Island.\nI'm focused on providing true tax relief for all hard working Long Islanders.\nIt's unfortunate that at the end of the day, when the dust has settled, they will continue to be the victims of out of state and out of touch Congressional leadership, putting politics over common sense, realistic solutions.\nMy colleagues know I'm eager to work with them to fix this legislation so we can actually get this across the finish line and signed into law to provide true tax relief for hard working Americans.  But unfortunately, that very temporary change to SALT in exchange for that permanent tax increase for individuals and small businesses is why I can't support this bill in its current form... Under the legislation, U.S. resources would be utilized in the most efficient way possible with a special focus on high-risk and medium-risk countries to boost security, and a reporting system would also be established to monitor efforts of foreign governments to combat terrorism and foreign fighter travel and to suspend foreign assistance to countries not making significant efforts to comply.\nIn speaking in favor of the Counterterrorism Screening and Assistance Act, Congressman Zeldin said:\nSince 2011, the situation in Iraq and Syria has presented significant challenges for the global community's ability to track and combat foreign terrorist actors.\nIn Europe, roughly 5,000 EU citizens have traveled to Syria or Iraq to become foreign fighters for the Islamic State or other foreign terrorist groups.\nOur foreign partners have employed various measures to combat foreign fighters to include increasing surveillance and prohibiting travel that have successfully thwarted a number of plots, but we need to do more.\nThere is a very serious and well-recognized need for improved international border security and information-sharing between governments.\nThis bipartisan legislation would ensure U.S. resources are utilized in the most efficient way possible to help international partners close loopholes in international airport security, better track these terrorists, and prevent them from traveling internationally, with a special focus on high-risk and medium risk countries.\nH.R. 630 would do this by requiring the Department of State and Department of Homeland Security to accelerate the delivery of certain surplus border security systems to countries of greatest concern and risk for foreign fighter or terrorist travel.\nThe U.S. will attempt to collect reimbursement for transferred equipment and all equipment transfers will comply with existing regulations related to the export of sensitive technologies.\nThis legislation would also establish a reporting system to hold our partners accountable, by monitoring efforts of foreign governments to combat terrorism and foreign fighter travel.\nIt is essential that the United States work together with the global community to monitor and stop the movement of terrorists abroad.\nThe Peace and Tolerance in Palestinian Education Act creates an annual report to Congress by the Secretary of State evaluating the curricula, provided by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) used in Palestinian Authority schools to determine if there is material inciting violence or intolerance and reporting on U.S. efforts to ensure such problematic material is eliminated from Palestinian textbooks.\nIn urging passage of the Peace and Tolerance in Palestinian Education Act, Congressman Zeldin said:\nThis was a bipartisan effort between Mr. Sherman and myself to maintain oversight over UNRWA's educational activities in the West Bank and Gaza.\nLast year, Congressman Perry and I secured declassification of a shocking GAO UNRWA textbook report revealing what we suspected all along: the UNRWA textbook initiative was a sham.\nTextbook content in UNRWA schools did not mention Israel or Judaism and included regional maps that excluded Israel and content that incites violence.\nThe GAO report found that supplementary material purchased using U.S. tax dollars to counter the anti-Semitic and anti-Israel bias injected by the PA, was being rejected and not utilized on the ground.\nWhat's worse?\nThe GAO report concluded that Congress has been unable to fully assess the nature and extent of the material in PA textbooks because of the State Department's misleading reports to Congress.\nIt is unacceptable the textbooks that are used delegitimize Israel and demonize the Jewish people.\nWe must demand transparency over the anti-Israel textbooks in this program that are fueling another generation of hate.\nOur bill requires the Secretary of State to submit annual reports to Congress to determine whether schools operated by UNRWA and the Palestinian Authority have removed this offensive textbook content and determine whether any U.S. foreign assistance is being used to support this hateful curriculum.\nThe United States cannot support a program that goes against the best interests of our greatest ally.", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"], ["https://reed.house.gov/news/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=3026", "REEDS LEGISLATIVE PRIORITIES INCLUDED IN GOVERNMENT FUNDING BILL", "2019-12-17", "2019", "2019-12", "Republican", "House", "NY", "Tom Reed", "R000585", "reed.house.gov", null, null, "legacy", "REED'S LEGISLATIVE PRIORITIES INCLUDED IN GOVERNMENT FUNDING BILL \r\n   \r\n    \r\n       \r\n      \r\n  \r\n    \r\n      f \r\n      t \r\n      #\r\n      e\r\n      \r\n      \r\n    \r\n    \r\n      \r\n        Washington,\r\n        December 17, 2019\r\n      \r\n       \r\n    \r\n  \r\n  \r\n  \r\n  \r\n  \r\n  \r\n  \r\n    \r\n      \r\n      \r\n      WASHINGTON Today, Rep. Bacel served as a United States Marine during World War II, and passed away on March 3, 2010 at the age of 89. He was a husband, father, and active and valuable member of the Fayetteville and Manlius community. A graduate of Fayetteville High School, he enlisted with the Marine Corps in 1941, on the day after the attack on Pearl Harbor, and served in the Pacific Theatre. He was one of the thousand young men who stood in long lines to enlist the day after Pearl Harbor and was sent off to war with the high school band playing and flags waving. His love of country held on throughout his life. In the flag that flew outside his home, and his dedication to honoring, helping and supporting our vets. The House publicly recognizes the winning teams and each winning app may be put on display in the U.S. Capitol Building for one year.\nThe NY-21 winner, Seth Albertus, created an app called CVES BOCES. The purpose of the app is to organize websites through the CES BOCES website and put them into an easy-to-read view for students and parents. It allows users to easily go through a school's future event, news articles, or explore other features of the website in a much more convenient application form. Seth wanted an easy way for schools to make apps for themselves in a modular fashion without the expensive fee large corporations charge. Because this app was done through his internship at CVES, they are now able to locally share this app with surrounding school districts at a fraction of the original price and shift it for the needs of individual district websites, among other things. Congresswoman Stefanik called Seth Albertus to congratulate him last week.\nI am excited to announce Seth Albertus is the winner of our Congressional App Challenge, and I commend him for all of his hard work, creativity, and innovation, said Congresswoman Stefanik. Seth was also a member of the team that won last year's Congressional App Challenge, and it is clear he has a true passion and talent for coding and developing helpful applications. Congratulations to Seth on a job well done, and I look forward to seeing the implementation of this app in many North Country school districts.\nTo watch Seth's video detailing his app, click here.\n###", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"], ["https://zeldin.house.gov/media-center/press-releases/if-americans-can-t-afford-prescriptions-they-can-t-afford-play-politics", "If Americans Cant Afford Prescriptions, They Cant Afford to Play Politics", "2019-12-16", "2019", "2019-12", "Republican", "House", "NY", "Lee Zeldin", "Z000017", "zeldin.house.gov", null, null, "legacy", "Op-ed by Congressman Lee Zeldin\nThe rising cost of prescription drugs has dealt a crushing blow to the wallets of everyday Americans and put a great strain on the government supported programs some of our country's most vulnerable populations - our seniors, children, disabled and impoverished communities - rely on.\nThe American people demand bipartisan, commonsense action to lower the cost of prescription drugs, and I was proud to support the Lower Costs, More Cures Act that is widely bipartisan and comprehensive, full of real solutions rather than partisan politics, but apparently House Democrats didn't feel the same.\nLast week was another setback for everyday Americans struggling to pay for lifesaving prescription drugs. Instead of bringing up the bipartisan legislation I supported, which lowers the cost of prescription drugs by promoting more low-cost options for patients, makes insulin more affordable, and much more, House Democrats passed almost entirely down party lines another Democrat messaging bill that will never actually become law.\nHouse Democrats' legislation stifles medical innovation and development, scraps the bipartisan consensus on drugs for seniors in Medicare Part D, and mandates price setting instead of price negotiation.\nWe've seen great success with Medicare Part D and, with some reforms, this program could provide a rough outline of a solution when it comes to negotiating drug prices. Within Medicare Part D, private non-profit and for-profit health insurance companies bid to provide prescription drug coverage for Medicare beneficiaries and separately negotiate prices with pharmaceutical companies. The incentive for Part D plan sponsors to negotiate lower prices comes from the fact that they can then reduce their premiums for Medicare beneficiaries and therefore attract more customers. Due to the fact the taxpayer subsidy depends on the bids submitted by plan sponsors, this competition benefits not only Medicare beneficiaries, but taxpayers overall. Medicare Part D should be reformed to provide plans increased flexibility to enhance negotiating power with drug manufacturers and drive down costs for beneficiaries.\nUnfortunately, this partisan legislation uses price setting instead of price negotiation, which would crush medical innovation and result in fewer cures. In fact, their legislation would create anywhere from 15 to 100 fewer cures according to the Congressional Budget Office and Council of Economic Advisers caused by the government price setting mandated under this bill.\nWe have a divided government, which means that partisan messaging bills have no chance of becoming law. This comes in stark contrast to the legislation I, and so many others, support, of which every single provision has received bipartisan support whether by passing out of House committees unanimously or passing the Senate with bipartisan support.\nOne of the best parts about this bipartisan legislation is that it could be passed and signed into law tomorrow, helping to provide relief to those struggling to make ends meet while ensuring they and their families have the life-saving medicine they need. When Long Islanders can't afford their prescriptions, they can't afford to play politics, which is why House Democrats should immediately bring the bipartisan, commonsense and comprehensive solution to the floor for a vote.\nCongressman Lee Zeldin represents New York's First Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives.", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"], ["https://zeldin.house.gov/media-center/press-releases/rep-zeldin-statement-following-latest-washover-dune-road-just-west", "Rep. Katko. With only six days on the legislative calendar before government funding expires, it has become more urgent than ever for House and Senate leadership to immediately consider a long-term funding measure to fully fund the government through fiscal year 2020. To promote financial certainty and ensure national defense operations are continued, it is imperative Congress reforms its unsustainable practice of relying on short-term continuing resolutions (CRs). These stop-gap CRs create financial uncertainty for hundreds of thousands of federal workers and an even larger number of Americans who depend on the services they provide. Moreover, our military leaders have warned Congress that lurching from CR to CR is detrimental to our troops and dangerous for our national security. Our armed forces depend on predictable budgeting to make reliable investments in technology and training that empower our men and women in uniform to combat growing threats around the globe.\nCongress must end the political games and focus on delivering meaningful solutions to the American people. Katko has remained focused on addressing issues important to Central New York. The bipartisan provisions he authored authorize research on Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs) and provide grant eligibility for projects to address high water levels in communities like Lake Ontario.\nDespite ongoing partisanship and gridlock in Congress, I am continuing to work on the issues that matter most to Central New York, said Rep. Katko. The House passed a bipartisan and comprehensive bill which includes provisions I authored to authorize HABs research and provide grant funding to assess the impact of water level regulating on communities facing high water levels and flooding. These amendments will help ensure families in our community have access to clean drinking water, and protect shoreline communities against future costly flooding along Lake Ontario.\nSpecifically, Rep. Katko's Amendments:\n \nAdd research on Harmful Algal Blooms to the U.S. Geological Survey research authorized under Coastal and Great Lakes Community Enhancement Act.\n\t\nProvide grant eligibility for coastal zones projects to assess the impact of water level regulatory practices on the Great Lakes. This includes shoreline communities along Lake Ontario.\n \nRep. Katko spoke on the floor of the House in support of these provisions.\nIn Congress, Rep. Katko has been on the forefront of addressing both flooding and ensuring access to clean water. He was worked on improving Central New York water infrastructure, promoting HABs research to keep our water clean, holding the IJC accountable, and fighting back against ill-conceived regulations that have resulted in severed damage to properties, businesses, and infrastructure along the southern shore of Lake Ontario\n  \n\t###", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"], ["https://katko.house.gov/media-center/press-releases/rep-katko-announces-key-wins-central-new-york-ndaa-conference-report", "Rep. U.S. Rep. John Katko (NY-24) today announced several key wins for Central New York in the Conference Report to National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2020, which he helped negotiate. The NDAA authorizes the budget and expenditures for the U.S. Department of Defense, and, critical to Central New York, authorizes funding for Fort Drum, the 174th Attack Wing, Rome Labs, and projects manufactured by several local companies.\nThe House-Senate Conference Committee is tasked with resolving differences between the House and Senate-passed versions of the NDAA. Rep. Katko was named a conferee as the House and Senate worked to build consensus on a bipartisan, bicameral bill.\nI was honored to work as a negotiator to produce a bipartisan, bicameral NDAA conference report. This measure strengthens our national security and will ensure our military is equipped to keep our country safe, said Rep. John Katko. Significantly for Central New York, this measure delivers funding for the 174th Attack Wing at Hancock Field, Fort Drum, and our local manufacturers that provide good-paying jobs in our community. I was proud to advocate on behalf of these local priorities, and to deliver for Central New York.\nSpecifically for Central New York, Rep. Katko advocated for the following, which were included in the final NDAA conference report:\n \nFunding for 12 MQ-9 Reaper UAVs, used by the 174th Attack Wing stationed at Hancock Field Air National Guard;\n\t\nFull funding for a requested UAV hangar at Fort Drum, with a total allocation of $44,000,000 to Fort Drum;\n\t\nFunding for the F-35 jet fighter program, with radars supplied by Lockheed Martin in Central New York;\n\t\nThe establishment of a Quantum Information Science Innovation Center, which is promising for Rome Lab, the Air Force's premier research organization for Command, Control, Communications, Computers, and Intelligence (C4I) and Cyber technologies. The directorate explores, prototypes, and demonstrates high-impact, affordable and game-changing technologies;\n\t\nFunding for a number of radar projects. Several Central New York manufacturers produce components for these projects.\n \nRep. Katko continued \"This measure gives our troops the largest increase in decades, provides an end to the Widow's Tax that affects thousands of military families each year, and implements a paid parental leave program for federal workers. Congresswoman Elise Stefanik voted today to pass the bipartisan Farm Workforce Modernization Act, legislation that she was an original cosponsor of. The bill, led by Rep. Dan Newhouse (WA-4) and Zoe Lofgren (CA-19), includes solutions to address the labor crisis facing American agriculture. It provides a pathway to legal status for undocumented farmworkers who have been working in agriculture for at least two years and plan to continue in their jobs. The Farm Workforce Modernization Act allows year-round workers, including dairy workers, to gain access to the H-2A program. Additionally, it simplifies the H-2A application process and establishes a mandatory E-Verify program to maintain employment authorization and records for the agricultural workforce.\nI was proud to help the House pass this bipartisan legislation to ensure our farmers have access to a stable, legal workforce, allowing them to continue to produce abundant, safe, and affordable food, said Congresswoman Stefanik. North Country farmers have been waiting for agricultural labor reform for years, and this is a major step towards a real solution to the issues facing their workforce. We are fortunate to have a wide range of agriculture operations in the North Country that create jobs and drive our economy, and this legislation will maintain their success. I applaud the House for coming together to pass this important legislation and will continue to advocate for the diverse group of farmers in the North Country.\nNew York Farm Bureau appreciates Rep. Stefanik's leadership in cosponsoring the bipartisan Farm Workforce Modernization Act, said David Fisher, New York Farm Bureau President and dairy farmer in Madrid, NY. Farms in her district and across the state need access to reliable labor in order to produce the food we need and to support our rural economy.\nWe applaud House passage today of the bipartisan Farm Workforce Modernization Act, which takes significant strides to make badly needed improvements to agriculture immigration policy that address dairy's unique workforce challenges, said Jim Mulhern, President and CEO of the National Milk Producers Federation. Congresswoman Stefanik has been a vocal champion on this issue for Upstate New York dairy farmers and we thank her for cosponsoring this bipartisan bill and providing momentum to move it through the House.\nThe U.S. Apple Association applauds Rep. The Lower Costs, More Cures Act is a compilation of over 40 truly bipartisan provisions that could be passed by the House, Senate, and signed into law by the President swiftly. I'm proud to cosponsor this legislation to prioritize more options and lower costs on prescription drugs, promote innovative cures for patients, and reform the drug industry. This legislation would bring real results for my constituents in the North Country who are tired of their prescription drug costs skyrocketing. I urge Speaker Pelosi to reconsider and bring this legislation to the Floor, which has a chance of becoming law and making a real difference in people's lives.\nThe Lower Costs, More Cures Act:\n \nEncourages innovation of groundbreaking new cures, promotes lower-cost options for patients, and deters drug companies from gaming the system.\n \n \nPrevents drug manufacturers from withholding samples of their drugs in order to delay patients' access to generic competition.\n\tStops pay for delay agreements in which the brand-name drug manufacturer pays the generic manufacturer to keep a generic equivalent off the market.\n\tEnds gaming of the patent system, including preventing drug manufacturers from receiving additional patent exclusivity periods for new drugs; clarifying that in order to get new exclusivities, all commercially undeveloped drugs must prove clinical superiority to a previous version of the drug already on the market; and limiting the potential for drug manufacturers to exploit loopholes in patent laws that allow them to maximize their monopoly over bestseller drugs.\n\tAllows FDA authority to approve multiple generic applications of the same drug, resulting in more generic competition, and speeding cures to market.\n\tIncreases transparency into patent listings so generic and biosimilar manufacturers have the information needed in order to enter the market.\n\tProvides new authorities to FDA to create a more streamlined approach to the regulation of over-the-counter products, increasing the availability of these products, which will lower costs for consumers.\n\tPlaces a cap on seniors' out-of-pocket drug costs and allows seniors to manage their annual out-of-pocket spending.\n\tCreates a new $3,100 per year out-of-pocket maximum on prescription drugs costs for Medicare beneficiaries in Part D.\n\tPuts in place a monthly cap for Medicare beneficiaries who have very expensive drug costs by smoothing  or spreading out  the amount a patient owes throughout the year, which helps seniors with fixed incomes better manage their out-of-pocket prescription drug costs.\n\tMakes insulin more affordable.\n\tRequires insurance companies to cap the cost of insulin for seniors in Medicare Part D at $50 a month after they've paid their deductible.\n\tIncreases transparency and removes uncertainty at the pharmacy counter.\n\tRequires insurance companies to make information about drug costs available in the doctor's office before a prescription is written, so patients know the cost and so doctors can prescribe the medicine that is best and the cheapest for them before heading to the pharmacy.\n\tExpands online cost estimate tools, so patients and seniors can shop around and better know how much they'll have to pay for their treatment before they set their appointment.\n\tCuts the cost of drug administration, including cancer treatment, for Medicare beneficiaries by as much as half.\n\tUnder Medicare, private oncology practices are paid about $144 for the most common chemotherapy treatment, but the payment rate for the same exact service by a hospital-owned physician practice is double that at $288. The letter also highlights that nearly every agriculture group in America has called on Congress to pass USMCA, which would significantly improve trade relations with our two largest trading partners that together purchase about one-third of all U.S. agricultural exports.\nIt is essential that Speaker Pelosi stops delaying and immediately considers USMCA on the House floor said Congresswoman Stefanik. North Country farmers are being held hostage and denied access to significant new markets for U.S. dairy, chicken, eggs, and turkey, among other products. The USMCA will greatly benefit farmers and ranchers struggling under the weight of a recession. The farmers in my district play an integral role in our North Country economy, and they deserve access to these markets, especially given their proximity to the Canadian border. In the last two years, Israel has been hit by over 2,600 rockets and mortars. In the past year alone, 1,500 of those rockets were fired from the Gaza Strip into Israel. Filing this resolution squarely into the category of worst timing possible, H.Res.326 came to the floor just one week after Israel was bombarded with over 450 rockets, but in all of the pages of this resolution, guess where it mentions Palestinian terrorism? Nowhere.\nThis resolution fails to not only recognize these latest attacks, but all of the persistent assaults on innocent Israelis by Palestinian terrorists. Guess what else this resolution fails to mention? It's silent on fundamental facts that shape the way Israel has dealt with a constant threat on its border. For example, during the March of Return, every single week, protestors gather along the border of Israel in Gaza to throw Molotov cocktails and burning tires at IDF soldiers. Just this week, Hamas passed out leaflets calling on the public to join these protests in response to Israel defending itself against the Palestinian Islamic Jihad.\nYou won't find this in this resolution or that Hamas uses innocent women and children as human shields, denies humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza, incites violence, launches rockets into Israel killing innocent civilians, has declared jihad an obligation, and that list goes on. Maybe worst of all, this resolution completely fails to mention that Israel has made repeated attempts to offer peace proposals to the Palestinian Authority.\nAfter the Camp David talks in 2000, Israel offered to withdraw from about 90% of Judea and Samaria, parts of East Jerusalem and Gaza. That same year though, the Palestinians started the Second Intifada, and more than 1,000 innocent Israeli civilians were killed in a Palestinian campaign of suicide bombings and shootings. In 2008, Israel offered to withdraw from 93% of Judea and Samaria, but time and again, the Palestinian Authority rejected peace proposals, while continuing to refuse to this day, both publicly and privately, to accept a Jewish state in Israel.\nIn this vein, the Palestinian Authority continues to incite violence and financially reward terrorists through its pay to slay' program, which included the murder of an American, West Point graduate, Taylor Force. Yet, House Democrats added language to this resolution last minute to support aid to the Palestinians, despite the fact that the Palestinian Authority refuses to suspend the Pay for Slay Program to this day.\nThis resolution imposes a solution' for Israel, stating specific Palestinian Authority demands, and deliberately leaving out critical Israeli preconditions necessary to maintain security. It doesn't recognize Israel's very right to exist as a Jewish state, with Jerusalem as Israel's capital. It is silent about providing assurances for Israel's safety and security through a demilitarized zone, but that didn't stop the resolution's authors from including Palestinian Authority demands of Israel.\nThe timing of this vote is no coincidence either. This resolution is a clear rebuke to the Trump Administration's recent reversal of the Obama Administration's targeting of Israel with UN Security Council Resolution 2334. The resolution references President Obama's policy towards Israel announced after the November 2016 election, but does not mention the Trump Administration's efforts in support of Israel. One of the worst lines in this resolution references support for the principles set forth by President Obama in 2016.'\nAfter the Obama Administration abstained from UN Security Council Resolution 2334, the House, along with many of my Democratic colleagues here today, voted in favor of a resolution to forcefully condemn UN Security Council 2334. This resolution today is a reversal on that point, pointing to that December 2016 moment in time as if it was something that should be applauded.\nThis resolution chooses to reference President Obama's policy, while intentionally leaving out the Trump Administration's policy, ensuring a partisan outcome for this resolution. This resolution doesn't mention the long list of victories we have had in this administration to strengthen our support for the security and stability of Israel, from moving our Embassy to Jerusalem to signing of the Taylor Force Act and recognizing Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights. This partisan resolution creates a totally unnecessary schism in what has otherwise been a long standing history of bipartisan support for the U.S.- Israel alliance.\nThere are other great, bipartisan bills that support Israel and fight anti-Semitism at home. We should be spending our time debating and passing bills like S.1., the Never Again Education Act, or the Peace and Tolerance in Palestinian Education Act. The House already passed, almost unanimously, a strong bipartisan resolution last summer with H.Res.246, which opposed BDS, and supported peace between the Israelis and Palestinians. However, House Democrats brought to the floor a watered down, partisan and weakened version of what already passed in the House.\nHouse Democrats should bring forward bipartisan legislation with teeth that will support Israel and fight the BDS movement. They should bring S.1/H.R. 336, which has already passed the Senate with strong bipartisan support and was introduced by Congressman Michael McCaul in the House. There is even a discharge petition led by Congressman Brian Mast for S.1/H.R. 336 that has almost 200 signatures on it, and if it came to a vote in the House of Representatives, it would pass overwhelmingly.\nBut rather than move forward and build on our long standing history of bipartisan support of the US-Israeli alliance, House Democrats decided to play politics with a powder keg.", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"], ["https://stefanik.house.gov/media-center/press-releases/stefanik-announces-hhs-grant-st-regis-mohawk-tribe", "Stefanik Announces HHS Grant for St. Regis Mohawk Tribe", "2019-12-05", "2019", "2019-12", "Republican", "House", "NY", "Elise Stefanik", "S001196", "stefanik.house.gov", null, null, "legacy", "Washington, D.C. Additionally, it requires the Department of Justice and the FCC to assemble an interagency working group to study and report to Congress on the enforcement of the prohibition of certain robocalls.\nEarlier this year, Congresswoman Stefanik also helped the House pass the Stopping Bad Robocalls Act.", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"], ["https://stefanik.house.gov/media-center/press-releases/stefanik-sends-letter-president-trump-supporting-disaster-declaration", "Stefanik Sends Letter to President Trump Supporting Disaster Declaration Following Halloween Storm", "2019-12-04", "2019", "2019-12", "Republican", "House", "NY", "Elise Stefanik", "S001196", "stefanik.house.gov", null, null, "legacy", "Washington, D.C.  Congresswoman Elise Stefanik has sent a bipartisan letter to President Trump supporting Governor Cuomo's request for a major disaster declaration for parts of Upstate New York after the devastating Halloween storm, which affected Essex, Fulton, Hamilton, Herkimer, Jefferson, Lewis, Saratoga, and Warren Counties. This comes after Congresswoman Stefanik worked with state and local officials to push for a joint Preliminary Damage Assessment from FEMA to assess the damage caused and funding needed to rebuild.\nThe destruction caused by the Halloween storm to communities in my district was devastating, and even caused the tragic death of Father John Connery of Glenville, said Congresswoman Stefanik. I am strongly supportive of Governor Cuomo's request to the President for a major disaster declaration. Following my push for a joint Preliminary Damage Assessment, it has been determined that our region needs federal support due to the magnitude of the damage caused by the storms. I will continue working to deliver this critical result for our community, and I'm grateful to the state and local officials who worked alongside me to ensure our region will receive the necessary funding in order to rebuild.\nElise Stefanik responded quickly to assist local communities after the Halloween 2019 storms that ravaged Upstate, said Jack Wilson, Chairman of the Fulton County Board of Supervisors. Several areas of Fulton County were hit hard and those municipalities are making necessary repairs and restorations. Elise is working with the Governor to ensure that federal aid is approved and we appreciate their efforts.\nWe are grateful to Congresswoman Elise Stefanik for her work to obtain federal funding for Saratoga County and other affected areas of Upstate New York following the devastating storms on Halloween, said Kevin Tollisen, Chair of the Saratoga County Board of Supervisors. We are optimistic that federal aid will come as a result of FEMA's damage assessment, and thank Congresswoman Stefanik for her diligence in getting this result for our communities in Saratoga County.\nThe County of Warren sustained significant damage in the October 31st storm, particularly to our critical transportation infrastructure, said Ronald Conover, Chair of the Warren County Board of Supervisors. Repairs are ongoing and will reach into the millions of dollars, which represents a massive burden on our already strained taxpayers in the absence of federal assistance. We are hopeful that President Trump will look favorably upon this request and would like to thank the men and women of the Federal Emergency Management Agency as well as the many state agencies that have helped thus far in the recovery effort.\n\"Hamilton County and several of our Towns suffered horrific devastation from the Halloween Storm, said William Farber, Chairman of the Hamilton County Board of Supervisors. We are all very grateful for the diligence of Congresswoman Elise Stefanik and Governor Andrew Cuomo in their efforts to assist with our restoration work. Critical to these restorations is a major disaster declaration and the necessary FEMA dollars to make this recovery possible.\nLewis county is very appreciative of Congresswoman Stefanik's recognition and rapid response to the damage Lewis County incurred with the October 31 disaster, said Larry Dolhof, Chair of the Lewis County Board of Legislators. We are truly grateful for the open communication which our mutual offices share.\nI support Governor Cuomo and Congresswoman Stefanik's effort to request disaster relief from the federal government, said Scott Gray, Chairman of the Jefferson County Board of Legislators. Our waterfront communities continue to endure damage from wind and water conditions which has been costly for local businesses, home owners and government and assistance from the federal government would be welcomed.\n\"Essex County is extraordinarily appreciative for US Representative Stefanik's steadfast support in bringing federal resources to bear in the recovery efforts from the Halloween rain and flood event that caused extensive damage to Essex County and the counties of the North Country, said Shaun Gillilland, Willsboro Town Supervisor and Chairman of the Essex County Board of Supervisors. Congresswoman Stefanik's efforts have been timely, dedicated, and responsive to the needs of her constituents. Essex County is proud to partner with her and her staff in serving the emergency needs of our citizens.\"\nThe Village of Dolgeville in Herkimer County suffered tremendous damage from the flooding on October 31st, said Mary Puznowski, Mayor of Dolgeville. The T-Band is a portion of spectrum used in 11 heavily populated metropolitan areas, including New York, covering over 90 million Americans, to support critical public safety communications (i.e. police, fire and other first responder's radios) and provide regional interoperability among first responders. Public safety agencies have spent numerous years and hundreds of millions of dollars of federal, state and local funds to plan and build out these T-Band networks. The result is battle-tested public safety networks that provide resilient coverage, reliability and regional interoperability. This spectrum is essential to public safety and for many public safety entities there is nowhere else to move, which is why Reps. Zeldin, Engel, and King introduced the Don't Break Up the T-Band Act to preserve the T-Band spectrum before it is reallocated for good.\nFCC Chairman Pai said, In 2012, Congress passed legislation requiring the FCC to reallocate and auction T-Band spectrum used for decades by public safety licensees and fund the relocation of those licensees elsewhere. The agency has extensively analyzed the T-Band and concluded that moving forward is not viablerelocation costs for public safety licensees would likely far exceed any potential auction revenue, making it impossible to fund the relocation and comply with the mandate. The Government Accountability Office has agreedreporting to Congress that the T-Band mandate is unworkable and could deprive first responders of their current ability to communicate by radio. Because of these concerns, I'm calling on Congress to repeal the T-Band mandate. I'm hopeful that Congress can resolve this matter without delay. Doing so will not only protect public safety communications in the T-Band but will also allow our dedicated auction staff to focus in 2020 on auctions that will make new airwaves available for 5G, like spectrum in the 3.5 GHz and 3.7 GHz bands.\nCongressman Zeldin (R, NY-1) said, Our first responders bravely and selflessly put their lives on the line each and every day to protect our communities, and our first priority must be ensuring they have the resources they need to safely and effectively do their jobs. From hurricanes to fires, in the most dire situations, the T-band spectrum provides critical communication between first responders. Even when cell phones, internet, and electricity cease to function, T-band is the last line of defense, and selling off this spectrum would be a disservice to our nation's first responders and the millions of Americans they serve, and I applaud Chairman Pai for standing with these brave men and women. I urge Congress to, rather than wasting its time on a partisan, divisive impeachment, focus on the issues most important to the American people, including the immediate passage of the Don't Break Up the T-Band Act.\nNYC Fire Commissioner Daniel A. Nigro said, Since September 11th, we have systematically improved radio communications for our Firefighters and EMS personnel responding to fires and medical emergencies because those transmissions can so often mean the difference between life and death. Losing the T-Band spectrum would require billions of dollars to replace existing radios and infrastructure, devastate FDNY's operations at thousands of emergencies each day, and unnecessarily endanger the safety of every single New Yorker.\nSuffolk County Fire District Officers Association President Jay Egan said, The issue of the T-Band being left as is should be paramount to all and being it is directly a public safety issue, remain supported on a bipartisan basis. The fire service dedicates countless hours to protect the well being of all our residents and keeping the T-Band intact will only assist in this effort. Taxpayers everywhere are currently overburdened as it is and additional costs to meet the demands of the alternative to T-Band would be astronomical.\nSuffolk County Legislator and Mastic Fire Chief Rudy Sunderman said, As a County Legislator, as well as a Fire Chief, I fully support the repeal of the bipartisan T-Band bill as proposed by Congressman Lee Zeldin and his colleagues. Finding new radio channels will be time consuming with a hefty bill for radio programming for each Fire District on Long Island. Repealing the mandated sale of the T-Band spectrum will be a huge cost savings not only to the fire districts but to the taxpayer as well.", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"], ["https://stefanik.house.gov/media-center/press-releases/stefanik-signs-letter-governor-cuomo-opposing-new-state-criminal-justice", "Stefanik Sends Letter to Governor Cuomo Opposing New State Criminal Justice Reform Bill", "2019-12-03", "2019", "2019-12", "Republican", "House", "NY", "Elise Stefanik", "S001196", "stefanik.house.gov", null, null, "legacy", "Washington, D.C. New bail reforms also raised concerns, as they would allow almost all defendants to go free while awaiting trial. The letter written to Governor Cuomo states that as a result of the law, local district attorneys will have to increase their operating budgets by 30 to 40 percent, due to burdensome standards.\nI am very concerned about the implications that this new criminal justice reform will have on our North Country Communities, said Congresswoman Stefanik. After hearing from multiple district attorneys from across the state and many local elected officials, I urge Governor Cuomo to put forward reforms to be considered immediately in this upcoming legislative session. Since coming to Congress, I've worked with Commander of the New York District of the Army Corps of Engineers Colonel Thomas Asbery and his incredible team to secure desperately needed victories for our Congressional District, whether it's moving the Fire Island to Montauk Point (FIMP) plan closer to implementation or securing emergency east end projects.\nLast year, a series of unprecedented storms pummeled area waterways and significantly worsened navigation conditions, leaving Moriches Inlet effectively impassable. I went out to the inlet to see these dangerous conditions firsthand, and was joined by fishermen, business owners and other stakeholders in calling for an emergency dredge. Working with the Army Corps of Engineers and others at every level of government, I secured the approval and $12 million in federal funding needed to undertake this emergency dredge. Equally as important, the dredged sand was placed at Smith Point County Park where it was used to widen the beach, strengthen the dunes and defend the beach against future storms.\nThese unprecedented winter storms left so many waterways in dangerous navigational conditions, including Wickham Creek on the North Fork. However, dredging of Wickham Creek is prohibited between January 1st and September 31st, but with the summer approaching, the condition of Wickham Creek was a safety hazard to recreational and commercial boaters alike. I secured an extension of the dredging period to restore safe navigational conditions for local residents right in time for summer.\nAlready this year, multiple storms have caused severe damage to the dunes along the ocean side all along our shores and, most significantly, led to severe flooding and a near breach of the barrier island just west of Shinnecock Inlet where many small businesses and jobs are located, including the second largest commercial dock in New York State. Last week, I joined Suffolk County officials to survey the latest damage and discuss available options for federal assistance regarding appropriate operation authority, funding and the availability of dredges and equipment.\nIn addition to calling on the Army Corps to utilize any emergency authority available to assist, my team and I have been in frequent contact with the Army Corps regarding any and all possibilities to strengthen the dunes as soon as possible.\nOf course, we can't jump from emergency to emergency only acting when we have no other choice, which, in addition to focusing on strengthening jetties and enacting other permanent fixes, is why I've prioritized maintenance dredging and projects that bolster our dunes and berms and prevent damage. Farther west on Dune Road in Westhampton Beach, the start of beach renourishment along the ocean side has begun. That project, which is 65% federal funded, is expected to relocate an estimated 1.2 million cubic yards of sand which will create a protective beach berm and dune, providing protection for Westhampton Beach and affected mainland communities of Moriches Bay.\nIn addition to continuing to advance the Fire Island to Montauk Point (FIMP) project to combat beach erosion and bolster storm protection, I also secured a dredge of the Long Island Intracoastal Waterway to restore it to its 6-foot depth and place sand at Webby Beach to extend the length of the beach and combat erosion, as well as at Smith Point County Park and Great Gun Beach.\nOn the North Fork, I secured nearly half a million dollars in federal funding for the Cedar Beach Creek Habitat Restoration Demonstration Project, which restores local essential ecosystem functions in the degraded marsh system. Since 1930, significant marsh loss and degradation from erosion and past filling activities have occurred. Completion of this project will greatly enhance the 65-acre marsh and beach complex at Cedar Beach Creek. The project will restore and create 19.5 acres of salt marsh and marsh islands through the beneficial use of clean dredged material, create new oyster reefs and 1.7 acres of new seagrass meadow, improve 3 acres of new open water habitat through increased and improved flushing and revitalize the entire 65 acre marsh, beach, and open water mosaic. This project will establish and enhance three critical marine habitats in the Peconic Estuary which is an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) designated Estuary of National Significance.\nOur area waterways are vital arteries for our vibrant coastal economy of marinas, restaurants, recreational boaters, commercial fishermen, and all of the small businesses that support these industries. Whether it's along the north or south shore or at Reel Point in Shelter Island, there's still a lot of work left to do. The hundreds of miles of coastline that comprise our shores have been forever ingrained in the culture and livelihoods of Long Islanders, and continuing to safeguard and invest in our maritime infrastructure will preserve our way of life for generations to come.\nCongressman Lee Zeldin serves as Co-Chair of the bipartisan Long Island Sound Caucus and member of the bipartisan Climate Solutions Caucus.", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"], ["https://zeldin.house.gov/media-center/press-releases/rep-zeldin-announces-start-beach-renourishment-westhampton-beach", "Rep. Today, Congresswoman Elise Stefanik's legislation, the Women's Suffrage Centennial Commemorative Coin Act, was signed into law by President Trump. This bill was introduced along with Congresswoman Brenda Lawrence (D-MI-14) in May of this year, and passed by the House of Representatives last month. The companion bill in the Senate, led by Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) and Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), was passed by the Senate shortly after. This legislation authorizes the Department of Treasury to mint 400,000 $1 silver coins in 2020 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of women's suffrage and ensures that the suffragists who dedicated their lives to fighting for women's fundamental right to vote are celebrated throughout the United States.\nI am honored that President Trump signed the Women's Suffrage Centennial Commemorative Coin Act into law this afternoon, said Congresswoman Stefanik. One of the most vocal advocates for women's suffrage, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, was born and raised in Johnstown, New York, and I am looking forward to celebrating the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th amendment in my district next year. The majority of voters in our country are women, and it is my hope that this legislation will encourage women across the country to continue to be active participants in civic life. I'm grateful to my colleagues and the President for supporting this bipartisan legislation.\nTo watch Congresswoman Stefanik speak on the House Floor last month in support of her legislation, click here.\n###", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"]], "truncated": false, "filtered_table_rows_count": 867, "expanded_columns": [], "expandable_columns": [], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "units": {}, "query": {"sql": "select url, title, date, year, month, party, chamber, state, member_name, bioguide_id, domain, scraper, source, date_source, text, has_text, collected_at, updated_at from releases where \"party\" = :p0 and \"state\" = :p1 and \"year\" = :p2 order by date desc limit 101", "params": {"p0": "Republican", "p1": "NY", "p2": "2019"}}, "facet_results": {"party": {"name": "party", "type": "column", "hideable": false, "toggle_url": "/press/releases.json?party=Republican&state=NY&year=2019", "results": [{"value": "Republican", "label": "Republican", "count": 867, "toggle_url": "http://dpwillis-congress-press-search.hf.space/press/releases.json?state=NY&year=2019", "selected": true}], "truncated": false}, "chamber": {"name": "chamber", "type": "column", "hideable": false, "toggle_url": "/press/releases.json?party=Republican&state=NY&year=2019", "results": [{"value": "House", "label": "House", "count": 867, "toggle_url": "http://dpwillis-congress-press-search.hf.space/press/releases.json?party=Republican&state=NY&year=2019&chamber=House", "selected": false}], "truncated": false}, "state": {"name": "state", "type": "column", "hideable": false, "toggle_url": "/press/releases.json?party=Republican&state=NY&year=2019", "results": [{"value": "NY", "label": "NY", "count": 867, "toggle_url": "http://dpwillis-congress-press-search.hf.space/press/releases.json?party=Republican&year=2019", "selected": true}], "truncated": false}, "year": {"name": "year", "type": "column", "hideable": false, "toggle_url": "/press/releases.json?party=Republican&state=NY&year=2019", "results": [{"value": "2019", "label": "2019", "count": 867, "toggle_url": "http://dpwillis-congress-press-search.hf.space/press/releases.json?party=Republican&state=NY", "selected": true}], "truncated": false}}, "suggested_facets": [], "next": "2019-11-25,https~3A~2F~2Fstefanik~2Ehouse~2Egov~2Fmedia-center~2Fpress-releases~2Fstefanik-legislation-signed-law-president-trump", "next_url": "http://dpwillis-congress-press-search.hf.space/press/releases.json?party=Republican&state=NY&year=2019&_next=2019-11-25%2Chttps~3A~2F~2Fstefanik~2Ehouse~2Egov~2Fmedia-center~2Fpress-releases~2Fstefanik-legislation-signed-law-president-trump&_sort_desc=date", "private": false, "allow_execute_sql": true, "query_ms": 524.187215603888, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
