This budget would be horrible for Mecklenburg County: halting infrastructure and transportation projects, worsening hunger, and putting higher education out of reach for students. I cannot, in good faith and conscience, support it. I encourage my Senate colleagues to be sensible and support an alternative budget that more adequately reflects our nation\u2019s priorities.\u201d\n\u00a0\nThe Republican budget which passed the House today would:\n Pave the way for tax cuts for the wealthy at the expense of the middle class;\n\tEnd the Medicare guarantee by cutting $1.5 trillion from Medicare and Medicaid;\n\tFreeze Pell grant funding for students, impacting more than 200,000 North Carolinian college students;\n\tSlash $150 billon from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP);\n\tEliminate TIGER grants;\n\tProhibit funding for high-speed rail projects;\n\tPhase out the capital investment grants from the Federal Transit Administration;\n\tReduce the State Department\u2019s funding by $11 billion;\n\tCut $6 billion from environmental protection resources.\n \u00a0\n###", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://adams.house.gov/media-center/press-releases/adams-opposes-gop-budget"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 1.6042091883718967, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
