Adams. Without immediate federal assistance, Mecklenburg County will be forced to balance its budget on the backs of students and teachers. The latest version of theHeroes Actwill save thousands of jobs and help avert devastating cuts to public education right here in Charlotte. Once the House passes this legislation, the Senate must act swiftly to do the same  our parents, teachers, and students deserve nothing less.\nIn addition to critical education funding, the COVID-19 relief billincludes $3.6 billion in election preparedness funding for States to use for contingency planning, preparation and the resilience of elections; and over $15 billion for the U.S. Postal Service and an additional $15 million for the U.S. Postal Service Inspector General. \"The updatedHeroes Actwill help keep our elections secure against all threats to their integrity, foreign and domestic,\"continued Adams.\nThe newHeroesActalsoreauthorizes the Payroll Support Program (PSP), which will save over 1,000 airline jobs in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg region,provides $75 billion for coronavirus testing, contact tracing and isolation measures, strengthens food security by increasing SNAP benefits, gives a second round of economic impact payments of $1,200 per taxpayer, restores $600 per month federal unemployment payments, and provides $50 billion to provide emergency assistance to help low-income renters at risk of homelessness.\n\"TheHeroesActis, first and foremost, a jobs bill,\"said Adams.\"It keeps our essential workers safe so they can go to work. It keeps our airline industry and other industries moving so they can continue to employ thousands across our region.
