The National Day of Prayer is an annual observance held on the first Thursday of May, inviting people to pray for America. This year\u2019s observance was themed \u201cOne Nation Under God.\u201d\n\n\u201cThe strong faith of our founding fathers guided them as they led our country in its beginning and it is important that faith in God leads even today,\u201d said Aderholt. \u201cThis nation is great because our founding fathers committed to prayer and the principles of their faith and it\u2019s important for America to remember our heritage. Days of prayer have a long-standing and significant history in the United States and I am honored to be a part of that tradition again this year.\u201d\n\nSpeakers at this year\u2019s service included Dr. David Jeremiah, Bishop Harry Jackson, Judge Reggie Walton, Representative Randy Forbes, Mrs. Vonette Bright, Rear Admiral Michael Parks, and Chaplain Colonel Thomas Waynick.\n\nThe National Day of Prayer was officially created in 1952 by a joint resolution of the United States Congress, and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman.
