Congressman Colin Allred (TX-32), released the following statement after voting in support of the bipartisan Appropriations bills that will fund the government through September 30, 2020:\nI am encouraged that leaders in both parties were able to come together and forge a bipartisan compromise to keep our government open and working for the American people.\nI'm proud that we made much-needed investments in election security, Head Start and child care programs, as well as record-level funding for lifesaving medical research at the National Institutes of Health. The bill will also improve public health by raising the smoking age to 21 and making a historic investment in gun violence research.\nThese investments will create jobs, bolster critical research and improve programs that have a real impact on North Texas families.\nIt is my hope that this bipartisan agreement will foster a productive year ahead for Congress, where we can put aside our differences and do the job we were elected to do.\nKey Victories for North Texans:\n Investing in Better Schools and Job Training; programs for education for the disadvantaged will receive $17 billion, $453 million above 2019 and a record level. Job training programs will receive $5.4 billion, a $134 million increase.\n\tInvests in families and child care; the Child Care &amp; Development Block Grant will receive $5.8 billion, $550 million over 2019 and a record level.
