Rep. Justin Amash (L-Mich.) congratulates the 2020 service academy appointees and student Congressional Medal of Merit recipients from Michigan's Third District.\n\t\tIt's a privilege to recognize the achievements of these outstanding students, and I look forward to seeing how they impact and lead future generations, said Amash.\n\t\tAppointees to a service academy must first secure a nomination from an authorized nominating source, which includes members of Congress. To assist with the nominating process, Amash works closely with an assembled committee of military and civic leaders who carefully review applications, interview potential nominees, and make recommendations.\n\t\tIn addition to thefive service academy appointees, Amash awarded 26 students with the Congressional Medal of Merit. The Congressional Medal of Merit recognizes high school seniors who have demonstrated exemplary citizenship and academic excellence. Recipients were nominated by their principals or guidance counselors.\n\t\t\n\t\tService Academy Appointments\n\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\tName            \n\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\tSchool\n\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\tService Academy\n\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\tBenjamin Harms\n\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\tLakeview High School\n\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\tUnited States Air ForceAcademy\n\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\tJacob Shepherd\n\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\tNorthPointe Christian High School\n\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\tUnited States Military Academy\n\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\tGarrett Siemen\n\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\tIonia High School\n\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\tUnited States Air ForceAcademy\n\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\tEmmett Rosenzweig\n\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\tMarshall High School\n\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\tUnited States Air Force Academy\n\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\tSayvion Young\n\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\tRockford High School\n\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\tUnited States Naval Academy\n\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\tCongressional Medal of Merit Recipients\n\t\tName\n\t\t\t\t\tSchool\n\t\t\t\tAlexis Behnke\n\t\t\t\t\tSt. Philip Catholic Central High School\n\t\t\t\tKaeleigh Casavant\n\t\t\t\t\tCedar Springs High School\n\t\t\t\tJeffrey Davlin\n\t\t\t\t\tSt. Patrick High School\n\t\t\t\tAutumn Dorsey\n\t\t\t\t\tLakeview High School\n\t\t\t\tHannah Feng\n\t\t\t\t\tGrand Rapids Christian High School\n\t\t\t\tKolton Grice\n\t\t\t\t\tAlgoma Christian School\n\t\t\t\tSuchir Gupta\n\t\t\t\t\tForest Hills Central High School\n\t\t\t\tMadison Haid\n\t\t\t\t\tForest Hills Eastern High School\n\t\t\t\tKaitlyn Hutchins\n\t\t\t\t\tRockford High School\n\t\t\t\tJohnathon Kulich\n\t\t\t\t\tComstock Park High School\n\t\t\t\tJacquelyn Molloseau\n\t\t\t\t\tCatholic Central High School\n\t\t\t\tMelanie Orozco-Zavala\n\t\t\t\t\tUnion High School\n\t\t\t\tMegan Paasche\n\t\t\t\t\tNorthview High School\n\t\t\t\tKarlie Platz\n\t\t\t\t\tWest Michigan Aviation Academy\n\t\t\t\tJoshua Roelofs\n\t\t\t\t\tPlymouth Christian High School\n\t\t\t\tWilliam Roosien III\n\t\t\t\t\tHastings High School\n\t\t\t\tAyshia Rubley\n\t\t\t\t\tMarshall Academy\n\t\t\t\tBenjamin Sorota\n\t\t\t\t\tEast Grand Rapids High School\n\t\t\t\tKelsi Steele\n\t\t\t\t\tHomer Community Schools\n\t\t\t\tBenjamin Toaz\n\t\t\t\t\tIonia High School\n\t\t\t\tQuyen Thu Tran\n\t\t\t\t\tEast Kentwood High School\n\t\t\t\tGrace Verdun\n\t\t\t\t\tWest Catholic High School\n\t\t\t\tXeny Lucas Vicente\n\t\t\t\t\tInnovation Central High School\n\t\t\t\tFaith Watson\n\t\t\t\t\tCreative Technologies Academy\n\t\t\t\tSamuel Wolowski\n\t\t\t\t\tNorthPointe Christian High School\n\t\t\t\tSonnet Yancey\n\t\t\t\t\tKenowa Hills High School\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t###\n\t\t061720AmashCongratulatesServiceAcademyAppointeesandCongressionalMedalofMeritRecipients.pdf", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://amash.house.gov/media/press-releases/amash-congratulates-service-academy-appointees-and-congressional-medal-merit"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 2.1017403341829777, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
