Gordon\u2019s painting, \u201cThursday Evening,\u201d depicts a trumpeter, bassist, and saxophonist gathering to play in a dark room, giving the viewer a sense of musicality.\n\nThe runner-up prize was awarded to Aleen Cant\u00e9 Ortiz of Central Falls for her painting, \u201cBetween Two Worlds: Dreams that Cross Borders,\u201d titled in Spanish as, \u201cEntre Dos Mundos: Sue\u00f1os Que Cruzan Fronteras.\u201d\n\n\u201cRhode Island\u2019s young artists demonstrated incredible talent and creativity in this year\u2019s Congressional Art Competition,\u201d said Congressman Gabe Amo (D-RI-01). \u201cCaroline\u2019s painting beautifully captures one art form through another, while Aleen\u2019s work pays homage to the grace of living between two communities. I\u2019m grateful to every student who submitted their work and to the teachers who inspired them. I look forward to becoming better acquainted with each of these outstanding works over the next year as I walk past Caroline's piece in the halls of the U.S. Capitol and Aleen\u2019s as it adorns my Rhode Island office.
