The event featured resource tables with Veterans\u2019 advocacy and support groups from across Rhode Island.\n\n\u201cIt was an honor to gather with so many of Rhode Island\u2019s Veterans and their families, to thank them for their service, and to help connect them with the resources they deserve,\u201d said Congressman Gabe Amo (D-RI). \u201cOur Veterans have sacrificed much to defend our nation, and it\u2019s our duty to support them every day.\u201d\n\nBackground\n\nSince his swearing in, Congressman Amo has been committed to supporting Rhode Island\u2019s Veterans.\n\nHe voted against Trump\u2019s Big, Ugly Law, which gutted SNAP, Medicaid, and the Affordable Care Act. An estimated 3,000 Rhode Island Veterans received SNAP between 2021 and 2023. As of 2023, 4,200 Rhode Island Veterans were enrolled in Medicaid.\n\nAmo also voted no on the extreme Republican Continuing Resolution earlier this year that failed to fund the PACT Act and their commitment to provide health care to Veterans impacted by toxic exposure.\n\nAmo proudly introduced a bipartisan resolution to support Veteran mental health by establishing \u201cVets Get Outside Day.\u201d\n\nOn February 13, 2025, Congressman Amo introduced a bipartisan bill with Senator Sheldon Whitehouse to recognize America\u2019s first integrated military unit \u2014 the First Rhode Island Regiment \u2014 by posthumously awarding its members with the Congressional Gold Medal.\n\nAmo hosted his first Barbecue to honor the Veterans of Rhode Island\u2019s First Congressional District on August 28, 2024.\n\nOn February 27, 2024, Amo announced over $586,000 in federal funds to help homeless Veterans and their families find permanent housing.\n\n###", 1, "2026-03-30T01:40:41Z", "2026-04-06T19:10:29Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://amo.house.gov/press-release/amo-celebrates-rhode-island-s-veterans-at-resource-fair-and-bbq"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 0.9120851755142212, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
