House Armed Services Committee Vice Chair Congressman Anthony G. Brown (MD-04) announced Matthew Verghese as his next Chief of Staff. Verghese is stepping into the role after serving four years as Congressman Brown's Deputy Chief of Staff and Communications Director.\r\nFor years, I've trusted Matt's advice and guidance in the O'Malley-Brown Administration, on the campaign trail and now in Congress. The passion, determination and experience Matt brings to serving the people of Maryland makes him the ideal person to lead my staff as we work to deliver for the people, said Congressman Brown. A natural leader and mentor, Matt understands how government can work to better the lives of everyday Americans. As we enter a new Congress and presidential administration, Matt's strong values and forward-looking vision will be instrumental to my efforts to strengthen our national security, modernize our infrastructure and provide critical aid for struggling working families.\r\nI'm honored to answer the call to serve and to build on the great work Congressman Brown continues to do in our communities and on Capitol Hill. Our state and our nation face immense challenges, but by working together we can make a difference in the lives of the people we serve and advance our shared American values, said Matthew Verghese. I look forward to helping Congressman Brown deliver on his vision for a safer, stronger, more equitable country and thank him for the opportunity to serve the state I love.\r\nA longtime advocate for the state of Maryland, Verghese previously served as Deputy Chief of Staff to then Maryland Lieutenant Governor Anthony Brown. He has also served as a senior advisor on the Van Hollen for Senate campaign as well as Political and Communications Director for the Maryland Democratic Party. Verghese is a proud and active University of Maryland alumnus.\r\n###", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://anthonybrown.house.gov/news/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=1127"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 1.2734842021018267, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
