Cindy Axne (IA-03) urged House leadership to reverse course and include an extension of funding for farm aid programs, the U.S. House of Representatives advanced a government funding resolution with vital aid for Iowa's family farmers.\nRep. Axne has been pushing House leadership to include language to replenish the Commodity Credit Corporation (CCC) in a continuing resolution (CR) that will avoid a government shutdown at the end of September.\nAlso included in the House's continuing resolution is a restriction that prevents the U.S. Department of Agriculture from using CCC funds to provide payments to oil refiners and undermine the Renewable Fuel Standard.\nWhile I am still frustrated that vital aid for Iowa's farmers was left out of this extension of government funding in the first place, I am glad that House leadership heard my concerns and reversed course on today's continuing resolution, said Rep. Axne. A continuing resolution is nothing to celebrate  it represents a failure of Congress to do its most basic duty and agree on funding for the coming year. While the House did its job and passed funding bills for more than 90% of our government, the Senate failed to introduce a single funding bill. I hope in the remaining time this session we can reach a bipartisan agreement that keeps the government open and vital programs funded to combat the ongoing national crisis.\nOn Monday, Rep. Axne joined all five other members of Iowa's congressional delegation to urge House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to include an extension for the CCC in this month's CR.\nFunding for Fiscal Year 2020 expires at midnight on September 30th. The CR passed today extends\ngovernment funding until December 11th.\nThe Commodity Credit Corporation is expected to reach its borrowing limit later this fall, which would significantly delay farm bill program payments from going out. The CCC finances farm bill programs to support farm profitability and conservation, as well asprovidepandemic assistance for farmers.\nThe USDA has utilizedtheCCC, in addition to funds provided by Congress through the CARES Act, to provide pandemic assistance to farmers and producers through the Coronavirus Food Assistance Program (CFAP).
