The Congressional App Challenge is an annual competition showcasing the value of computer science and STEM education by encouraging middle and high school-age students to learn how to code through the creation of their own apps.\n\nDriven by his passion for role-playing games (RPGs), Johnson developed an app featuring heroes who team up for exciting adventures.\n\n\u201cThe Congressional App Challenge offers a unique opportunity for students to showcase their technical capabilities and to inspire their peers to pursue career paths in computer science,\u201d said Congressman Balderson. \u201cAs one of this year\u2019s youngest competitors, Lane has applied his passion and creativity to design a product for others\u2019 enjoyment. He should take great pride in this outstanding achievement.\u201d\n\nThe app, which Johnson named Cats vs. Dogs: The RPG, is an interactive game that allows players to choose their characters\u2019 abilities and to navigate through different environments and obstacles.\n\nA unique component to Johnson\u2019s app is all of the character graphics displayed throughout the game are hand-drawn by him.\n\n\u201cI loved making my app and drawing the pictures used in it.
