{"database": "press", "table": "releases", "rows": [["https://balint.house.gov/news/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=324", "Vermont Congressional Delegation Welcomes $25 Million U.S. Dept. of Transportation Grant for Town of Killington", "2024-06-28", "2024", "2024-06", "Democrat", "House", "VT", "Becca Balint", "B001318", "balint.house.gov", "balint", "https://balint.house.gov/news/documentquery.aspx?DocumentTypeID=27", "scraper", "Killington, VT \u2013 The Vermont Congressional Delegation, Senator Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), Senator Peter Welch (D-Vt.), and Representative Becca Balint (VT-At-Large), today welcomed $25 million in federal funding for the Town of Killington, announced this week by the Biden-Harris Administration and the U.S. Department of Transportation through the Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity (RAISE) grant program.\n\nFunded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which Sanders and Welch helped pass in 2021, the RAISE grant program helps communities rebuild their aging and unsafe transportation infrastructure. The Killington grant is awarded to help complete pedestrian safety and accessibility projects, road reconstruction, and the installation of new stormwater infrastructure to address runoff issues.\n\n\u201cWe cannot bolster our local economies or strengthen community safety, connectivity, and sustainability if we are not paying attention to the essential methods of transportation that Vermonters need in their daily lives,\u201d said Sanders, Welch, and Balint. \u201cThe Bipartisan Infrastructure Law is a historic, and greatly needed, investment in America\u2019s infrastructure. We are glad to see the positive impact of this law reaching communities across Vermont, including Killington. This project will help pedestrians and drivers alike with improvements that increase safety, climate resilience, and quality of life.\u201d\n\nThe project includes the construction of approximately 2.7 miles of shared use path, 1.4 miles of new sidewalk, new crosswalks with pedestrian warning signs, and new intersection safety improvements. New stormwater infrastructure will be installed in addition to a complete, full-depth reconstruction of the roadway. The funds will also address stormwater runoff issues and treat 100% of runoff before it enters waterways. Construction is estimated to start June 2026.\n\nThe announcement comes after the Delegation sent a letter to U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Buttigieg advocating on behalf of the Town of Killington\u2019s application.\n\nIn total, the U.S. Department of Transportation announced $1.8 billion in funding through the department\u2019s RAISE discretionary grant program.
