Congressman Jim Banks (IN-03)today announced that he has nominated 12 students from Indiana's 3rdCongressional District for acceptance to U.S. Service Academies as the Class of 2024.\r\nSaid Rep. Banks,These twelve bright, young men and women represent the best northeast Indiana has to offer. Because of their academic success, each one of them had the option to attend a wide-range of top tier universities. They have chosen to serve their country and commit themselves to the American military. It's remarkable to see such a strong sense of patriotism and duty at such a young age. I wish each of them the best of luck in the final stage of the admissions process. \r\nBACKGROUND: Admission to a Service Academy is a two-tiered process. First, the applicant must directly apply to the Academy and meet the set minimum standards. These standards include, but are not limited to medical, physical, and academic qualifications. The second tier in pursuing admissionis the nominationprocess. A nomination does not guarantee admission to a service academy, but it's required to be considered. On November 16, 2019, Congressman Banks' U.S. Service Academy Advisory Board interviewed students seeking a nomination to U.S. Service Academies.\r\nList of Indiana's Third District Nominees:\r\nUnited States Military Academy\r\nAbigail Buczak Bishop Dwenger High School\r\nColby Fleming Homestead High School\r\nRyan Schneider Carroll High School\r\n* Also nominated to the United States Naval Academy and the United States Air Force Academy\r\nWilliam Schneider Carroll High School\r\n* Also nominated to the United States Naval Academy and the United States Air Force Academy\r\nBailey Spurr Homestead High School\r\n* Also nominated to the United States Naval Academy\r\nMcKenna Tuggle Canterbury School\r\n* Also nominated to the United States Naval Academy, United States Air Force Academy, and United States Merchant Marine Academy\r\n\r\nUnited States Naval Academy\r\nMark Dely Homestead High School\r\n*Also nominated to the United States Military Academy\r\nDaniel Herschberger Woodlan Jr/Sr High School\r\n*Also nominated to the United States Military Academy and United States Merchant Marine Academy\r\nCarter Roach Homestead High School\r\nLuke Stockel Carroll High School\r\n* Also nominated to the United States Merchant Marine Academy\r\nWilson Whicker Concordia Lutheran High School\r\n*Also nominated to the United States Military Academy, United States Air Force Academy, and United States Merchant Marine Academy \r\n\r\nUnited States Air Force Academy\r\nMatthew Minnich Indiana Academy for Science, Mathematics & Humanities\r\n###\r\n\r\nCongressman Jim Banks represents Indiana's 3rdCongressional District and serves on the House Armed Services Committee, Committee on Veterans Affairs, and Committee on Education and Labor.
