Less than one month after the President took office, claiming he wanted to unify the country, and on the heels of five bipartisan COVID-19 packages in 2020, Congressional Democrats rammed through a $1.9 trillion stimulus bill on a party-line vote. Democrats called this bill a “COVID-19 relief bill,” but less than 10% of the funding in the massive package went toward public health measures. House Democrats’ payoff to progressives created historic inflation numbers that are crushing the middle-class and a debt crisis we confront today.

“Simply put, Democrats own this debt crisis. I voted to raise the debt ceiling in 2019 on a bipartisan basis and that debt ceiling increase covered expenses incurred by the Trump Administration through January 20, 2021. However, I will not give Congressional Democrats a blank check to bankrupt America by doubling down on their failed tax, borrow and spend policies and impose a $2.1 trillion tax increase on American job creators and families during a pandemic.”

###", 1, "2026-03-30T01:40:41Z", "2026-04-06T20:24:51Z
url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at
url
https://barr.house.gov/press-releases?ID=F939184F-CCF3-4C42-AA52-32869C6191DE
