This important role will focus on supporting military members and their families by managing veteran-related casework and serving as a vital liaison between constituents and federal, state, and local agencies.\n\nThe Green and Gold Congressional Aide Program was established by the House of Representatives to provide employment opportunities for veterans.\n\nThe position is based in Congressman Baumgartner\u2019s Spokane district office. However, applicants residing anywhere within Washington state\u2019s 5th Congressional District are encouraged to apply.\n\n\u201cThis program offers a unique opportunity to serve the veterans and military families of Eastern Washington while gaining invaluable experience working with government agencies,\u201d said Congressman Baumgartner. \u201cI encourage all eligible veterans, Gold Star family members, and active-duty spouses to consider applying.\u201d\n\n\u201cWe must ensure our veterans and their families are receiving the services and benefits they deserve. Baumgartner continues to provide assistance to veterans in Washington\u2019s 5th district, this aide will provide a great service to the residents of Eastern Washington.\u201d\n\nEligibility Requirements:\n\nVeterans must meet all the following criteria:\n\nHonorably discharged;\n\nReleased from active duty within the last six years;\n\nPay grades at or below E-5, O-3, or W-2;\n\nVeterans promoted to E-6, O-4, or W-3 within six months of separation are eligible if all other criteria are met;\n\nVeterans receiving 20-year or Temporary Early Retirement Authorization (TERA) retirement are not eligible.\n\nGold Star Family Members must be a surviving child (including stepchild), spouse, parent, or sibling of:\n\nA service member who died in the line of duty (including reserves and National Guard), unless due to willful misconduct; or\n\nA veteran with an Honorable Discharge who died from a service-connected disability within four years of separation.\n\nActive-Duty Spouses must be the spouse of a full-time active-duty service member.
