Thompson announced more than $400 million in emergency funding for colleges, universities, and students in Mississippi's 2nd Congressional District under the American Rescue Plan. The funding will help local institutions cope with the severe financial fallout from the COVID-19 pandemic and continue serving their students safely. At least half of the funding each institution receives will be distributed in the form of emergency cash assistance grants to students who are facing hunger, homelessness, and other hardship.\n\nThe American Rescue Plan provides $36 billion for nearly 3,500 public and private, nonprofit colleges and universities nationwide.\n\nThe colleges and universities in Mississippi's 2nd District receiving funding under the American Rescue Plan are:\n\nAlcorn State University: $15,634,269\n\nBelhaven University: $7,057,174\n\nCoahoma Community College: $7,423,669\n\nCopiah-Lincoln Community College: $7,046,632\n\nDelta State University: $7,532,196\n\nHinds Community College: $35,133,504\n\nHolmes Community College: $13,323,521\n\nJackson State University: $23,518,059\n\nMillsaps College: $2,063,598\n\nMississippi Delta Community College: $8,335, 569\n\nMississippi Valley State University: $8,404,710\n\nTougaloo College: $4,053,573\n\nStudents should contact their institutions for more information about how they can apply for an emergency grant.\n\nThe American Rescue Plan also includes nearly $3 billion in additional funding \u2013 which will be distributed at a later date \u2013 for Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), Tribal Colleges and Universities (TCUs), other Minority-Serving Institutions, and other under-resourced institutions.", 1, "2026-03-30T01:40:41Z", "2026-04-06T19:49:40Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://benniethompson.house.gov/media/press-releases/congressman-bennie-thompson-announces-more-400-million-local-colleges"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 0.8243999909609556, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
