Thompson released the following information regarding the Mississippi Civil Rights Sites Special Resources Study, which details opportunities for the preservation, protection, and interpretation of civil rights sites for Mississippi. This study disclosed nine historic sites in Mississippi affiliated with the 1955 murder of Emmett Till and the 1964 Mississippi Freedom project, which met the Special Resources Study criteria for potential inclusion in the National Park System. These sites include the following:\n\nBryant\u2019s Grocery Store and Ben Roy\u2019s Service Station\n\nBurned Station Wagon site in Neshoba County\n\nEast Money Church of God in Christ cemetery\n\nGlendora Cotton Gin and community center\n\nGraball Landing river site in Glendora\n\nM.W. Stringer Grand Lodge in Jackson, MS\n\nMt. Zion Methodist Church in Neshoba County\n\nNeshoba County Courthouse Square in Philadelphia\n\nTallahatchie County Courthouse\n\nEmmett Till Interpretive Center\n\n\u201cI am proud to support the work that The National Park Service is achieving. This is an important moment in history. Growing up Mississippi, I witnessed different events unfold and some were tragedies. By preserving Mississippi civil rights sites, America\u2019s heritage will never be forgotten.
