This legislation secures government funding for the next 45 days, averting a potentially devastating crisis.

“This emphasizes the unwavering dedication of my Democratic colleagues and myself to the American people. I want to stress the strong support from our side of the aisle, in stark contrast to the decision of over 90 Republicans who voted against this bill, putting us on the brink of a government shutdown,” said Rep. Thompson. Notably, I was the sole member of the Mississippi delegation to support this measure, representing my commitment to thousands of Mississippi government workers and families who would face tremendous hardships. I remain steadfast in prioritizing the stability and welfare of our nation.”

The stopgap measure will provide certainty and stability for businesses, consumers, and federal workers, ensuring that the government can continue to provide essential services, such as Social Security, Medicare, and national security, as well as funding for domestic disaster relief.", 1, "2026-03-30T01:40:41Z", "2026-04-08T00:37:48Z
url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at
url
https://benniethompson.house.gov/media/press-releases/congressman-bennie-thompson-commends-house-passage-crucial-stopgap-measure
