Thompson (D-MS) announced the African American Cultural Heritage Action Fund, a program of the National Trust, granted $3 million in funding to 33 historic sites that represent Black history. The funds will help historic places representing African American history. The Mound Bayou Bank received $94,000, and The Medgar & Myrlie Evers Institute received $50,000.\n\n\u201cProtecting Mississippi\u2019s African American historic places is critically important to our national understanding of Black life, activism and achievement,\u201d said Brent Leggs, Executive Director, African American Cultural Heritage Action Fund. \"While both sites hold very distinct stories, their contributions to our shared American history are undisputed.
