Thompson (D-MS) released the following statement regarding President Trump’s fiscal year 2018 budget request:
“President Trump’s budget is perhaps the most damaging proposal for rural America that we have ever seen,” said Thompson. “The Trump budget seeks to eliminate the Low Income Energy Assistance Program, the Rural Business and Cooperative Service, the Rural Water and Waste Disposal Program and the Single Family Housing Direct Loans Program. President Trump also reneged on his promise to not cut Medicaid. It is clear that President Trump has turned his back on rural America.”
“Unfortunately, many of us have become numb to Donald Trump’s foolish rhetoric and irrational tweets but this budget is a stark reminder of the dangers his Presidency. Perhaps the President should spend less time at his golf courses and more time meeting real Americans. I look forward to working with my colleagues to develop a budget that works for all Americans.”
###", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at
url
https://benniethompson.house.gov/media/press-releases/thompson-statement-trump-s-fy-2018-budget
