Jack Bergman issued the following statement after voting in support of the FY23 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA):\n\n\u201cThe number one constitutional duty of Congress is to provide for the defense of our Nation. This year\u2019s NDAA provides major wins for our Nation and servicemembers including a 4.6% pay raise. While no legislation is perfect, major concerns for our national security and troops were addressed in this year\u2019s NDAA, including rescinding the COVID vaccine mandate, rejecting Biden\u2019s plans to cut the fleet size of the U.S. Navy, and hardening our defense against Chinese aggression.\u201d\n\nThe FY23 NDAA:\n\nReverses Biden's proposed cuts that would harm our security, missile defense, military construction and procurement;\n\nEnds the separation of servicemembers for failing to take the COVID-19 vaccine;\n\nEncourages DoD to reinstate and provide full Veterans benefits to servicemembers separated for failing to take the COVID-19 vaccine;\n\nProvides a 4.6% pay raise for our servicemembers;\n\nIncludes funding for Operation Northern Strike;\n\nIncludes provisions to help counter impacts of inflation on low-income military families;\n\nInvests in research, development, and procurement of capabilities to deter adversaries;\n\nIncludes provisions to counter adversaries like Russia, China, and Iran;\n\nProhibits the sale of products manufactured, assembled in or imported from China in US military base exchanges or commissaries;\n\nProhibits a dishonorable discharge for servicemembers who refuse a COVID-19 vaccination;\n\nRequires regular DOD Inspector General reviews of assistance provided to Ukraine;\n\nExpresses the sense of Congress that the crisis at our Southern border is a national security threat; and\n\nCreates incentives for servicemembers to report waste and fraud.", 1, "2026-03-30T01:40:41Z", "2026-04-08T03:32:05Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://bergman.house.gov/news/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=1016"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 0.9374960791319609, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
