Jack Bergman introduced legislation to require an audit of U.S. contributions to multilateral and international organizations. This legislation is based on recommendations from the Republican Study Committee\u2019s Task Force on National Security and Foreign Affairs report released earlier this year.\n\nRep. Bergman was joined by current RSC Chairman, Rep. Mike Johnson (R-LA), and fellow Task Force members Rep. Joe Wilson (R-SC), and Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX) as original cosponsors.\n\n\u201cOur government currently lacks a comprehensive analysis of how taxpayer dollars are being used by international organizations and whether those funds are being used to advance U.S. interests. The U.S gives billions of dollars each year to entities like the United Nations but we have no reporting on what happens to that money and where it ultimately ends up being spent. It\u2019s time we have a transparent, independent audit of these funds to ensure better oversight of and proper implementation of taxpayer dollars,\u201d said Rep. Bergman.\n\nThe International Spending Transparency Act would direct the State Department to conduct an annual audit of United States contributions to multilateral and international organizations.\n\nThe audit will include information related to:\n\nThe total amount of U.S. contributions to recipient multilateral and international organizations and the purpose for each contribution;\n\nThe amount of contributions spent on administrative costs in comparison to projects;\n\nAn analysis of waste, fraud or abuse by receiving entity; and\n\nWhether any receiving entity in turn provided funds either directly or indirectly to:\n\nThe People\u2019s Republic of China\n\nThe Russian Federation\n\nThe Islamic Republic of Iran\n\nThe Democratic People\u2019s Republic of Korea\n\nThe Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela\n\nThe Syrian Arab Republic\n\nAny organization designated as a foreign terrorist organization", 1, "2026-03-30T01:40:41Z", "2026-06-28T00:42:23Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://bergman.house.gov/news/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=778"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 0.9236151818186045, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
