Bishop, Jr. (GA-02), a senior member of the U.S. House Appropriations Committee, issued the following statement in response to proposed legislation from U.S. House Republicans that would temporarily continue funding for the federal government through early 2024.\n\n\u201cCongress needs to come together and find a compromise that keeps the federal government open and working for the American people. This includes providing domestic disaster relief and protecting our borders as well as addressing the ongoing conflict resulting from Russia\u2019s invasion of Ukraine, the war between Hamas and Israel, and the adversarial moves by China in the Indo-Pacific region.\n\n\u201cUnfortunately, the Republican proposal to \u2018ladder\u2019 temporary, continued funding for the federal government does not appear to meet this mark. It also creates the possibility of rolling fiscal cliffs which could leave Americans at risk of a government shutdown from month to month.
