Jeff Merkley and Ron Wyden, and Rep. Suzanne Bonamici \u2014 who represents Washington County in Oregon's 1st Congressional District \u2014 have called for the president to step down after more than a dozen women claimed the president made inappropriate advances before he became president.\nThe accusations from 15 women range from lewd behavior to sexual harassment and sexual assault. Two said they witnessed the behavior and said it made them uncomfortable.\nIn a press conference on Monday, several of the women called on Congress to investigate the president's history of sexual misconduct.\nThe three Oregon lawmakers join a growing list of Democratic members who Congress who have called for Trump to step down. Last week, Sen. Al Franken, a Minnesota Democrat, resigned amid sexual harassment allegations.\nOver the weekend, New York Democrat Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand called on the president to step down, prompting a response from Trump on Twitter calling her a \"total flunky\" who would \"do anything\" for campaign contributions.\nThe tweet has been criticized for being sexually suggestive, which the White House has denied.\nMerkley called on Trump to step down during an interview on MSNBC's Meet The Press on Dec. 7. An outspoken critic of the president, Merkley said in a fundraising email this week that the president's actions go beyond partisan politics.\n\"This is not about politics. This is not about policy. I disagree with him on many things, but this is not about that,\" Merkley wrote in the email.\nMerkley said Tuesday that Congress should hold hearings into the allegations if Trump does not step down.\nIt's fundamental accountability, that's what it boils down to,\" Merkley said on CNN Nov. 12. \"There were over 40 senators who said it was the right thing for Senator Franken to step down. But if you believe that that's the case, wouldn't you also believe that it's the right thing for the president to step down, who has far more serious set of stories?\"\nWyden agreed with Merkley that Congress should investigate if Trump refuses to resign.\n\"No one is above the law,\" he wrote on Twitter on Monday.\nBonamici, a Beaverton Democrat who has served in the House since 2012, said the president wasn't fit to hold the office.\n\"The President is a danger and embarrassment to our country, and he should resign,\" she wrote on Twitter on Wednesday.\nSeveral women came forward with the claims prior to last year's election, alleging that Trump made several unwanted advances on women, from fondling women's breasts without their consent, to walking in on beauty pageant contestants as they changed, and other accusations.\nThe controversy was fueled after a tape of Trump bragging about seducing married women was leaked to the press during the campaign. On the recording \u2014 made in 2005 during a taping of \"Access Hollywood,\" while Trump was host of the TV reality show, \"The Apprentice\" \u2014 Trump said that his celebrity status allowed him to grab women's genitals and kiss them.\nDuring a presidential debate, Trump downplayed the remarks as \"locker room talk\" and denied that he ever groped or kissed women without their consent.", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://bonamici.house.gov/media/in-the-news/oregon-congressional-delegation-calls-trump-resign"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 1.7729271203279495, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
