(Oct. 14, 2022) \u2013 Today, U.S. Representative Tim Burchett (TN-02) and U.S. Representative Steve Cohen (TN-09) introduced a bill to make the federal prosecution process against violent offenders and drug criminals more efficient.\n\n\u201cOur courts are already bogged down by enough bureaucracy. They shouldn\u2019t have to jump through extra hoops just because there's a mistake in the way our law is written,\u201d said Rep. Burchett.\n\n\u201cI\u2019m pleased to join in this correction to the federal code that will clarify the law, help prevent technical errors, and make justice clear\u201d said Rep. Cohen.\n\nThis bill corrects a numbering error in the U.S. Code that requires prosecutors, defense attorneys, and federal judges to supply an additional \u201cexplanatory footnote.\u201d Correcting this error will remove an unnecessary step in the process of prosecuting certain violent criminals and help to avoid mistakes regarding defendants who have \u201cserious drug felonies\u201d or \u201cserious violent felonies\u201d that could end in sentencing errors.", 1, "2026-03-30T01:40:41Z", "2026-04-08T03:20:33Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://burchett.house.gov/media/press-releases/congressman-burchett-introduces-fix-bill-increase-efficiency-prosecuting-drug"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 0.729645136743784, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
