(Dec. 31, 2020) -- Today,\nU.S. Representative Tim Burchett (TN-02) announced unique artifacts from the Museum of Appalachia will be on display in his Washington D.C. office, which is located in room 1122 of the Longworth House Office Building. Since 2003, these items have been on loan to\nU.S. Senator Lamar Alexander (R-TN) for display in his Washington office.\nThese historic pieces needed a new home as\nSen. Alexander retires from office in January 2021, and\nRep. Burchett is keeping alive a Tennessee Congressional delegation tradition by moving these pieces to his office. Every item on display originated from within Tennessee's Second Congressional District.\n\ufeff\nAhead of the relocation,\nRep. Burchett,\nSen. Alexander and\nElaine Meyer,\nPresident of the Museum of Appalachia, met virtually to discuss the cultural importance of these artifacts.\n\"Sen. Alexander and I grew up in East Tennessee, and these pieces belonged to the folks who came before us,\"\nRep. Burchett said during the discussion. \"This stuff really touches me and it's cool the Museum of Appalachia can show us how people back then overcame obstacles in everyday life.\"\n\"The Museum of Appalachia is such a treasure for East Tennessee and helps us celebrate our Appalachian culture,\"\nSen. Alexander said. \"These artifacts gave me a chance to show off that culture, and these pieces of history always caught the attention of people walking by my office. I'm grateful to Elaine Meyer, the Irwin family and John Rice for loaning these items to me and I'm glad Rep. Burchett has decided to put a sizable part of this exhibit in his Washington office.\"\n\"These artifacts are something all East Tennesseans can lay claim to, and it's great they were on display in Sen. Alexander's office throughout his tenure in the U.S. Senate,\"\nMs. Meyer said. \"I'm glad this tradition is continuing, and these pieces will be a unique part of Rep. Burchett's office just as they were with Sen. Alexander.\"\nClick here\nor on the image below to watch the full conversation between\nRep. Burchett, Sen.
