Washington's constant culture of failure and ineffectiveness was on full display this week  and families across the Heartland are understandably frustrated. The American people deserve better than relentless dysfunction and politicians who are more interested in scoring political points than executing the basic functions of government.\nI will continue working to bring both sides together to find solutions and bring the shutdown to an end as quickly as possible.\nTo help veterans, seniors and hardworking families navigate this shutdown, our Congressional office is maintaining operations during this shutdown. We will also continue to inform the public about the shutdown and its impact at www.bustos.house.gov.\nMany federal agencies will close due to the shutdown. THIS LIST IS SUBJECT TO UPDATES AND CHANGES\nThe following services will continue during a shutdown:\n \nVeterans Health Administration will remain open and continue to provide medical services.\nVeterans Affairs call centers, hotlines, and regional offices will remain open.\nSocial Security beneficiaries will continue receiving checks.\nThe U.S. Postal Service will keep delivering mail.\nMedicare and Medicaid claims will continue to be processed.\nActive military will continue serving.\nAir traffic controllers, prison guards, TSA agents and border patrol agents will remain on the job.\nNASA Mission Control will continue supporting astronauts serving on the Space Station.\nThe United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) offices will remain open.\n \nThe following services will be halted during a shutdown:\n \nLoans to rural communities will be halted.\nNew applications for small business loans will be halted.\nPermits and reviews for transportation projects will be halted except in cases of emergency.\nConsumer protection services (child product safety, financial security, etc.) will be halted.\nNon-essential Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) inspections of chemical facilities and drinking water systems will be halted.\nNon-essential federal employees at unfunded agencies, including but not limited to the Department of Agriculture, the Department of Transportation, and the Department of Homeland Security, will be immediately furloughed without pay.\n \nThe following services will continue in a limited capacity but may be halted in an extended shutdown:\n \nSNAP, school lunch benefits, and other nutrition programs may be limited in an extended shutdown.\nTax refunds may be delayed by the IRS.\nPassports will continue to be issued by the State Department, but processing of applications may be delayed or halted in an extended shutdown or at certain locations.", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://bustos.house.gov/bustos-statement-on-washington-republican-government-shutdown/"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 1.7853360623121262, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
