Carey Announces 2022 Congressional Art Competition for High School Students", "2022-03-22", "2022", "2022-03", "Republican", "House", "OH", "Mike Carey", "C001126", "carey.house.gov", "carey", "https://carey.house.gov/press-releases/", "scraper", "Columbus, Ohio \u2013 Congressman Mike Carey (OH-15) today announced that all high school students residing in Ohio\u2019s 15th Congressional District are eligible to participate in the 2022 Congressional Art Competition, \u201cAn Artistic Discovery.\u201d\n\n\u201cThe Congressional Art Competition is a fantastic opportunity for high school students to showcase their talents on a national stage,\u201d Congressman Carey said. \u201cI encourage all interested students to participate and I look forward to welcoming the winning student to Washington D.C. where their artwork will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol alongside other winners from across the country.\u201d\n\nThe winning student will have their artwork displayed inside the United States Capitol for one year and will also be invited to Washington, D.C. to take part in a national reception. Winning submissions will be determined by a panel of experts and local officials with the overall winner being notified during the first week of May.\n\nIn addition to the overall winner, 2nd and 3rd place winners as well as a People\u2019s Choice award will be selected and displayed in Carey\u2019s District Offices. Images of selected artwork will be posted on his Facebook page and constituents will have an opportunity to vote for the winner. The student whose artwork receives the most \u201clikes\u201d will be designated the winner of the People\u2019s Choice award.\n\nArt works entered in the contest must be two-dimensional and may be up to 22 inches by 22 inches and up to 2 inches in depth. Acceptable media, original in design, concept, and execution include:\n\n\u2022 Paintings: oil, acrylics, watercolor\n\n\u2022 Drawings: pastels, colored pencil, pencil, charcoal, ink, markers\n\n\u2022 Collage\n\n\u2022 Prints: lithographs, silkscreen, block prints\n\n\u2022 Mixed media: use of more than two media such as pencil, ink, watercolor.\n\n\u2022 Computer-generated art\n\n\u2022 Photography\n\nAll submissions are due by Friday, April 22, and can either be mailed or delivered in person to any of Congressman Carey\u2019s District Offices in Columbus, Lancaster, or Wilmington. Full guidelines may be found here.\n\nThe Congressional Art Competition began in 1982 to provide an opportunity for members of Congress to encourage and recognize the artistic talents of their young constituents.
