By providing a tax credit, my bill incentivizes safe gun storage to lower the risk of accidents, suicides, and youth access to guns. As Dean of the Indiana Congressional Delegation, I invite all Hoosier lawmakers to join me in making our communities safer.\u201d\n\nAccording to a study from the National Library of Medicine, 75% of children under the age of 10 live in homes with firearms know where they are stored, and 36% of those children reported handling their parents\u2019 unsecured firearms.\n\nCongressman Carson\u2019s bill:\n\nDirects the Department of Justice (DOJ) to establish voluntary best practices for safe firearm storage and to publish online and in print for public accessibility;\n\nImposes labeling requirements on specified handgun, rifle, and shotgun manufacturers to provide a clear and conspicuous notice on packaging that says, \u201cSafe Storage Saves Lives\u201d along with the address of the public website providing best practices established by the DOJ;\n\nProvides grant funding for the development, implementation, and evaluation of Safe Firearm Storage Assistance Programs;\n\nEstablishes a 10% tax credit on certified firearm safes and storage devices through 2030.\n\n###", 1, "2026-03-30T01:40:41Z", "2026-04-07T14:40:33Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://carson.house.gov/media/press-releases/congressman-carson-introduce-gun-safety-bill"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 1.0561870876699686, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
