Community Project Funding is restricted to a limited number of project categories, with the committee having final say on which projects are funded.\n\nProjects include support for housing, workforce development, public health, infrastructure, and crime prevention initiatives across Indianapolis.\n\n\u201cAs the Trump administration tries to take away funding from our communities, I\u2019m investing in Indianapolis\u2019 future,\u201d said Congressman Carson. \u201cThese investments will shape projects that make our communities safer, healthier, and more vibrant. Each project is unique, but they share a common thread: making life better for all of Indianapolis.\u201d\n\nCongressman Carson will join leaders from Shepherd Community Center and the City of Indianapolis for a brief media availability and check presentation on Friday, February 20 at 11:00am at Shepherd Community Center, 4017 East Washington Street Indianapolis, IN 46201. Please RSVP to Ryan.George@mail.house.gov.\n\nPROJECT AWARDS:\n\nPublic Health:\n\nThis funding will be used to support diverse student populations from Indiana universities and colleges in the Indiana Biosciences Research Institute's internship program. It will provide cutting-edge biomedical research in the areas of diabetes, pediatric rare diseases, and Alzheimer\u2019s disease, attracting top-tier scientific talent and creating high-quality jobs for the life sciences sector.\n\nLead Service Line Replacement: $1,092,000\n\nThis funding will identify and replace lead service lines in economically disadvantaged communities in Indianapolis, specifically Martindale Brightwood. It will expedite long-overdue lead service line replacement, reducing public health risks associated with lead contamination.\n\nInfrastructure:\n\nHowland Ditch Greenway Flood Control*: $1,145,144\n\nThis project will provide long-term, permanent risk reduction by restoring the stream corridor to a more natural system capable of handling flood flows, reducing long-term flood risk and allowing for the development of housing and jobs within the corridor.\n\nIndianapolis Airport Baggage Handling System: $2,000,000\n\nThis funding will be used to install Explosive Detection System (EDS) technology for increased explosive detection, enhancing airport security and improving passenger and airport employee safety.\n\nIndyGo Fleet Replacement: $1,200,000\n\nThe funding will be used to purchase four vehicles utilizing eGen Flex Diesel-Electric hybrid engine technology, ensuring IndyGo\u2019s fleet is in a state of good repair. The funding will benefit Indianapolis residents with better service reliability and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.\n\nMarket Street Improvements: $500,000\n\nThis funding will be used for the complete reconstruction of bricked Market Street from Pennsylvania and Delaware Streets in the heart of downtown Indianapolis. The 60-year-old roadway is in deteriorating condition; improvements to the roadway will allow for Americans with Disabilities Act compliance and improve pedestrian accessibility throughout the corridor.\n\nCommunity Development:\n\nHomelessness Housing: $850,000\n\nThis funding will provide rental assistance to help sustain the Master Leasing Program, supporting the eventual development of 244 units. Funds will assist in building operation costs, providing permanent supportive housing solutions for Indianapolis residents experiencing homelessness.\n\nShepherd Community Center Expansion, City of Indianapolis: $250,000\n\nThis funding will be used to provide new space for community activities and expanded services for Indianapolis families, including a food bank, health, workforce development, employment and educational services. The expansion will serve economically disadvantaged families and strengthen after-school and summer services.\n\nThis funding will be used to expand Ivy Tech\u2019s advanced manufacturing training. It will ensure Indiana\u2019s workforce remains competitive by offering hands-on, tech-driven programs that support local employers, adapt to evolving technologies, and promote lifelong employment in a high-demand sector.\n\nThis funding will provide an upfront infrastructure investment needed for Butler University\u2019s new Engineering and Data Analytics Program.\n\nThe funding will be used to purchase and implement field ready technology and support infrastructure for the Advanced Sensing Technologies Initiative. This project will support biomedical sensing, data analytics, and rehabilitation sciences; create employment pipelines through internships, apprenticeships, and laboratory technician roles; and incubate small businesses and entrepreneurial ventures that focus on occupational health, sports performance, and wellness innovation.\n\nPublic Safety:\n\nThe funding will be used to increase task force efficiency in child exploitation investigations and enhance public safety across the entire state of Indiana.\n\nCity of Lawrence Public Safety Initiatives: $1,031,000\n\nThis funding will support will equip officers with body-worn cameras to increase transparency and accountability. It will also provide technology to solve crimes with digital tools.\n\nMarion County Sheriff\u2019s Department: $1,031,000\n\nThe funding will be used to enhance the Maron County Sherrif\u2019s Department Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) program to combat the opioid crisis, by utilizing additional forms of MAT including medications that require only once monthly administration.
