{"database": "press", "table": "releases", "rows": [["https://case.house.gov/news/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=2154", "Case Announces Winners Of His 2023 Congressional Art Competition", "2023-05-06", "2023", "2023-05", "Democrat", "House", "HI", "Ed Case", "C001055", "case.house.gov", "case", "https://case.house.gov/news/documentquery.aspx?DocumentTypeID=27&Page=14", "scraper", "(Honolulu, HI) \u2013 U.S. Congressman Ed Case (Hawai\u2018i \u2013 District 1) announced the winners of his Hawai\u2019i District 1 2023 Congressional Art Competition during an awards ceremony at the Bishop Museum on Thursday, where entries had been on public display.\n\n\u201cWith more than 70 art pieces entered this year from public, private and home-schooled high school students, this was my largest number of entries yet,\u201d said Case. \u201cAll of this year\u2019s contestants earned our respect for participating in a contest that featured so many quality art pieces and made it so difficult for our three judges to select the winners,\u201d said Case.\n\n\u201cThe quantity, quality and diversity of the artwork presented was inspiring and truly showcased the range of artistic talent across my district. I will be very proud to highlight the winners\u2019 work in the U.S. Capitol and in my Congressional offices.\u201d\n\nEach spring since 1982, the Congressional Institute has sponsored a nationwide high school visual arts competition to recognize and encourage artistic talents in each Congressional district. The winners for Case\u2019s event this year are:\n\n1st Place\n\nYu-An Ma\n\nGrade 12\n\nKalani High School\n\nTitle: \u201cBurden of Paradise\u201d\n\nMedium: colored pencils on black paper\n\nShe and a guest will receive a round trip for two on Southwest Airlines to attend the National Awards Competition in Washington, D.C., among other prizes. Her image representing Hawai\u2018i\u2019s 1st Congressional District will also be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year along with those of the winners in other districts.\n\n2nd Place\n\nNayeon Gil\n\nGrade 10\n\nMaryknoll High School\n\nTitle: \u201cConsequence, What\u2019s Next?\u201d\n\nMedium: drawing\n\nHer image will be displayed in the Washington, D.C. Office of Congressman Case for one year, along with a certificate.\n\n3rd Place\n\nKailee Umaga-Silva\n\nGrade 12\n\nFarrington High School\n\nTitle: \u201cWill I Ever Be Seen?\u201d\n\nMedium: photography\n\nHer image will be displayed in the District Office of Congressman Case in downtown Honolulu for one year, along with a certificate.\n\nHonorable Mentions\n\nRachael Kim\n\nGrade 11\n\nMid-Pacific Institute\n\nTitle: \u201cBackstage\u201d\n\nMedium: recycled denim fabrics\n\nDane Nishizaki\n\nGrade 12\n\nKalani High School\n\nTitle: \u201cUlua from the \u2018\u0100ina\u201d\n\nMedium: acrylic paint\n\n\u201cI want to especially thank our panel of judges who reviewed the works and made some very tough decisions,\u201d said Case. The judges were:\n\n- Mark Brown\n\nHas been active in the arts for the last 40 years. He is a Plein air, landscape artist.\n\n- Keliilalo \u201cLalo\u201d Ishiki-Kalahele\n\nLalo is a Native Hawaiian photographer and artist.
