{"database": "press", "table": "releases", "rows": [["https://case.house.gov/news/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=437", "U.S. House Passes Major Government Reform Measure", "2021-03-03", "2021", "2021-03", "Democrat", "House", "HI", "Ed Case", "C001055", "case.house.gov", "case", "https://case.house.gov/news/documentquery.aspx?DocumentTypeID=27&Page=27", "scraper", "(Washington, DC) \u2013 Congressman Ed Case (HI-01) announced today that his amendment to strengthen mail-in balloting was included in the landmark H.R. 1 \u201cFor the People\u201d measure that he co-introduced this year and once again passed the full U.S. House of Representatives.\n\nIn remarks to the full House, Case said:\n\n\u201cOur \u2018For the People Act\u2019 is a truly revolutionary bill that will implement many of the most critical government reform efforts we need to get government working for the people again, such as fighting voter suppression, simplifying voting, promoting election security, curbing special interest and dark money in politics, incentivizing smaller and broader donations, increasing transparency and fortifying ethics laws.\u201d\n\n\u201cIn my Hawai\u2018i, which performed its first universal vote-by-mail election in the 2020 primary elections, vote-by-mail increased election accessibility across-the-board, especially for our k\u016bpuna (elders) and those in underserved communities for whom in-person voting is problematic, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.\n\n\u201cHawaii\u2019s most recent primary election resulted in the highest voter turnout percentage for a primary election in our state\u2019s history, and more people voted in Hawaii\u2019s general election than ever before.\n\n\u201cWe demonstrated to ourselves and the rest of the country that we can hold an all-mail election with virtually no fraud claims or disputed election results.\u201d\n\n\u201cDespite Hawaii\u2019s success, I am sure we can do even better, and there are best practices that can be shared amongst the states across our nation to encourage the even more widespread adoption of vote-by-mail,\u201d said Case.\n\n\u201cThus, my amendment simply directs the Election Assistance Commission to conduct a study on vote-by-mail efforts in 2020 elections and develop recommendations to help states better administer their elections in the future.\u201d\n\nCase added: \u201cthis is what drove me to re-enter government when I campaigned for a return to Congress in 2018, and there was no other issue out on the campaign trail across my district that so unified people.\u201d\n\nCase said the bill, which was first introduced in the 116th Congress in 2019 and approved in the House but failed to pass the Senate, \u201cwas driven by my Reformers Caucus and many other grassroots groups and our supporters in Congress and will go a long way toward returning government to the people \u2013 where it belongs.\u201d\n\n\u00b7 Case\u2019s full remarks on H.R.1 are here\n\n\u00b7 Attachments: pictures of House members including Congressman Case on the steps of the Capitol today in a press conference prior to the vote on H.R. 1.\n\n###", 1, "2026-03-30T01:40:41Z", "2026-04-06T19:33:37Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://case.house.gov/news/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=437"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 0.740695046260953, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
