We have so much to be grateful for in the United States and I hope everyone has a blessed holiday.\nNatural Resources\nThis week Majority Leader McCarthy and I met with Interior Secretary Zinke and a number of other members of Congress to discuss royalties on soda ash. These royalties are now at 6% and should be much lower.\u00a0\nI also sent a letter to the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration this week to address an area in northeastern Wyoming that lacks a National Weather Service radar system. This system provides folks in our state with critical information in order to keep their families safe, properly manage their land, and ensure the safety of our miners, the backbone of our state. A 2009 Radar Feasibility Study determined a \"significant radar coverage gap exists\" in our state and the NOAA has been unwilling to address this safety hazard until a comprehensive report is sent to Congress, which was due on October 15. I'm urging the NOAA to review the 2009 Feasibility Study and take immediate action to address this serious safety concern.\nHouse Armed Services Committee\nThis week the House and Senate both passed the bipartisan FY18 National Defense Authorization Act. I was honored to serve as a conferee. I was able to speak on the House Floor and at the Rules Committee, in support of the final NDAA bill and the damage the Budget Control Act has done to our armed forces. \u00a0The most important responsibility of Congress is to provide the resources necessary for our armed forces to defend the United States. The NDAA will begin to undo the significant damage done by the Obama Administration's misguided policies and the Budget Control Act.. The Funds authorized in this NDAA will enable the United States to modernize our strategic forces, increase and improve our missile defense, and restore other critical readiness gaps. The bill also provides a needed and deserved pay raise for our troops. The final bill included crucial amendments that I added including Section 1674, that ensures our current fleet of deployed Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles remains at or is about 400, a crucial leg of the nuclear triad.\nRules Committee\nTax Reform \nI voted in favor of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act today because it is critically important we provide tax relief for hard-working families in Wyoming. The bill will lower rates, simplify our out-dated tax code, and completely repeal the death tax. By letting Americans keep more of their own money, this bill will generate economic growth and create jobs.\u00a0It will provide businesses, large and small, with certainty and relief. I have heard from folks all across Wyoming, in every sector of our economy that they want relief from the overly burdensome and far too complicated tax code. I strongly support tax cuts for all Americans and I call on the United States Senate to do its job and pass the kind of comprehensive tax reform our economy needs and the people of Wyoming deserve. Congress must seize this historic opportunity to provide tax relief for Wyoming families and job creators and send comprehensive tax reform legislation to President Trump for his signature.\n Around Town \nThanks to the Wyoming Livestock Roundup for the photos from the Douglas School Board Meeting honoring the donors of the \"Farm to Plate\" Pilot Project, supported by State Senator Brian Boner and State Superintendent Jillian Balow. I applaud all the donors for contributing livestock to such an incredible project. Great work!\n\u00a0\nThis week Lance Corporal Tagen Schmidt was presented a flag that was flown over the United States Capitol at my request in honor of his service for the U.S. Marine Corps. Corporal Tagen showed incredible courage despite suffering from severe injuries and will continue to dedicate his life to protecting our country. Thank you for your bravery and service.\n Local Literary \nCheck out this article about an amendment I added to the SECURE Act that clarifies the Migratory Bird Protection Act and would help ensure federal agencies don\u2019t abuse the act.\n\"The congresswoman has introduced an amendment to that effect in the SECURE Act, a sweeping piece of legislation that would, among other things, allow for more state control of oil and gas activities on federal land. It passed in the House Committee on Natural Resources on Wednesday.\"\nRead the full article here: https://goo.gl/nGKVnz\nI encourage everyone to read this article about the need to modernize our nation's intercontinental ballistic missiles, including those at F.E. Warren Air Force Base.\n\"For Cheney, the GBSD program and the greater nuclear weapon modernization program is part of a larger priority to upgrade the entire United States military. Cheney has opposed defense spending caps imposed under federal sequestration and repeatedly emphasized the need to grow the military following what she says was a steady reduction in capability during the Obama administration.\"\nRead the full article here: https://goo.gl/PRKh4f", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://cheney.house.gov/media/newsletters/congressman-liz-cheneys-november-17th-newsletter"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 0.9297477081418037, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
