I'm encouraged by the proposed legislation and Congress' historic opportunity to provide much needed and overdue security for American families. For far too long our tax system has been overly complicated and placed a burden on the middle class, small businesses, and hindered economic growth. The bill will be marked up next week. I look forward to continuing to hear from folks at home as we finalize the House tax plan. Please don’t hesitate to contact our office with concerns or reactions to this plan. Read more here: https://goo.gl/Rh22Xr
On Wednesday, I spoke in support of the Resilient Federal Forests Act, a bill I co-sponsored that will help begin to undo the damage of the last eight years. This year has been one of the largest wildfire years in our nation's history and we have seen lives, habitat, and property across the west threatened. These fires are being caused and worsened by federal mismanagement. During the past eight years, policies opposing proven methods of forest management have led to destruction of large parts of our national forests. I'm pleased this act passed with bipartisan support and is a significant step towards fixing and implementing proper and effective forest management strategies. Watch my floor speech here: https://goo.gl/j2poCi
I voted in favor of, and the House passed, the reauthorized Children's Health Insurance Program, otherwise known as CHIP for five years. Millions of low-income children receive health care through the CHIP program and it's critically important their health care is secure and needs are taken care of. This bill also extends funding for community health centers for two years and delivers crucial Medicaid funding assistance in Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands after the devastating hurricanes that impacted the area this year.
On Thursday, I voted for H.R. 849, Protecting Seniors' Access to Medicare Act of 2017, to repeal the provisions of Obamacare that provided for the Independent Payment Advisory board (IPAB). IPAB was a regulatory board created by the Obama Administration that bypassed congressional authority and cut Medicare payments to health insurance providers. We need to protect Wyoming seniors' access to Medicare. IPAB was designed to undercut seniors' access to the healthcare they need and deserve. I'm pleased Congress voted to repeal this unconstitutional board of unelected Obama appointees.
I'm proud of the overwhelmingly bipartisan votes in the House on bills that impose new sanctions on Iran's ballistic missile program and the terrorist group Hezbollah. Restricting Iran's ballistic missile program is just one of the many steps we must take to undo the damage of President Obama's nuclear deal with Iran. It is also critically important that we strengthen sanctions on Hezbollah, Iran's leading terrorist surrogate. I will continue to support President Trump and his efforts to address the many deficiencies with the President Obama’s deeply flawed nuclear deal, one of the worst deals the United States has ever made.
I joined members of the House coal caucus in a meeting with Secretary of the Interior Ryan Zinke. We discussed a range of important issues for Wyoming, including coal exports and rolling back guidelines imposed at the last minute by the Obama Administration.
Along with other members of the Western Caucus, I met with President Trump’s OMB Director, Mick Mulvaney. We discussed the importance of balanced budgets and spending cuts, along with identifying ways to solve the fire borrowing problem facing the Forest Service in light of the fires they have been fighting across the west.
On Monday, I joined several other House members from the Armed Services, Intelligence and Appropriations committees to meet with Secretary of State Tillerson. We had the chance to discuss threats facing our nation and the Trump administration’s actions to defeat those threats.
Constituent Visits
It was great to meet with UW's new Vice President for Research Dr. Edmund Synakowski, Carolyn Fuller, and Leslee Gilbert to learn more about the Universities' research priorities, that included energy, water, and Wyoming's Natural Center for Atmospheric Research.
The Director of the Department of Environmental Quality Todd Parfitt and ECOS Executive Director Alex Dunn got a chance to sit down and talk with me this week about ECOS initiatives such as Cooperative Federalism 2.0, the EPA budget, and infrastructure. Most importantly, we discussed the issues impacting our state, like, the AML, Nuclear Regulatory Commission, and the Biological Opinion for Coal mining related to the Stream Protection Rule.
It was great to meet with Bill Campbell from Sheridan and the National Association of Theatre Owners on Thursday, this week. We spoke about Americans with Disabilities Act drive-by lawsuits that have been occurring and the 40 hour work week Obamacare mandate.
I want to thank Sharon Terhune from Lander, Georgia Foster from Sheridan, and Ted Lapis from Sheridan from the Friends Committee on National Legislation for stopping by this week. We were able to talk about ways Congress can pass a federal budget that protects funding that strengthens our communities.
O'Ann Fredstrom from Jackson and the American Psychiatric Assembly stopped by my office on Friday this week and it was a pleasure to discuss Obamacare with her. Thanks for the engaging discussion.
Around Town
It was a delight to speak with all the folks who took part in my very first tele-phone town hall. It was great to get a chance to discuss the issues that are most important to you. During our tele-town hall we covered topics such as the BLM, state's rights, the repeal and replacement of Obamacare, and education. I'm looking forward to talking and answering more questions for you during our next town hall on November 14th. Thank you to everyone who participated.
The Honorable Thomas W Rumpke, Campbell County 6th Judicial District Court Judge and his family came to Trick or Treat at my Gillette District Office on Halloween. Thanks for stopping by and showing off the Wizard of Oz family costumes!
I had a great time at University of Wyoming’s homecoming this weekend and enjoyed watching our Cowboys defeat the Lobos in a blowout! I want to thank everyone who made this homecoming possible and can’t wait to see the Cowboys take on Colorado State tomorrow.

A big congratulations to Shoshoni rancher Lois Herbst, Gillette's Cyclone Drilling Patrick Hladky and Paul Hladky, and Cheyenne's Maury Brown, who will all be inducted into the Wyoming Business Hall of Fame next week and recognized for their lifelong achievement in business. Read more about the hall of famers here: https://goo.gl/6mjZCV
Local Literary
I had the pleasure of stopping by and speaking to the Wyoming Taxpayers Association annual meeting in Cheyenne last week. For too long our tax code has been overly complicated and burdensome for families and small businesses in our state and we need to provide folks with a new tax system that is more simple and fair.
"We passed a House version that I was proud of," Cheney said. "It had sufficient spending cuts in necessary areas and sufficient resources for defense. That bill went over to the Senate, and the dynamics in the Senate are different. ... The budget we got back didn't have some of the things I would have liked to have seen, but we had a choice to make. We could have forced a conference between the House and Senate, but it would have taken an additional two to three weeks at least, so we made a decision."
Click below to read more: https://goo.gl/GY3w9Z", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at
url
https://cheney.house.gov/media/newsletters/congressman-liz-cheneys-november-3rd-newsletter
