Providing DHS with expanded authority to halt migrant crossings during times of crisis is critical to reestablishing operational control at the border. This is certainly a time of crisis at the southern border, and our legislation would provide much-needed support to frontline law enforcement.”

“Over the last 21 months, we’ve experienced a national security, humanitarian, and public health crisis at the southern border. Joe Biden refuses to act on the crisis that he created, Kamala Harris has not visited the border as the so-called ‘Border Czar,’ and DHS Sec. Mayorkas believes there’s no crisis occurring in the first place,” said Congresswoman Cammack. “This bill holds the Secretary accountable by providing him with the authority to shut down the border to protect our national security and deliver relief to the hundreds of CBP agents who are doing their best to hold the line in California, Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas.”

The text of the bill is available here.", 1, "2026-03-30T01:40:41Z", "2026-04-08T03:08:33Z
url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at
url
https://clayhiggins.house.gov/2022/09/23/higgins-co-authors-legislation-suspend-migrant-entry-during-surges/
