The measure was pushed by Senators John Kennedy (R-LA) and Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) in the Senate. Congressman Higgins issued the following statement:\n \n\tThis 5-month reauthorization provides Louisiana home and business owners certainty that their flood insurance policies will continue, especially in the event of a prolonged government shutdown. My office remains focused on passing a long-term reauthorization that protects affordability, improves floodplain mapping, and prioritizes pre-disaster mitigation. The House of Representatives passed a long-term, 5-year NFIP reauthorization, which included excellent reforms, in November of 2017. Since then, the Senate has failed to pass the House bill or produce their own long-term NFIP reauthorization and reform bill. I support the continuance of NFIP. I do not support the failure of the Senate... obstructed by their own cloture rule...to perform.", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://clayhiggins.house.gov/media/press-releases/house-passes-five-month-nfip-extension"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 1.6127321869134903, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
