On his second day of office, Carter pardoned all Vietnam War draft evaders. He brokered historic peace agreements between Egypt and Israel, created the Departments of Energy and Education, led efforts to negotiate a hostage crisis in Iran, signed the Panama Canal Treaty, created the Carter Center, and so much more.\n\n\u201cHe was ardently committed to preventing and resolving state conflict, promoting freedom and democracy, and fostering the health of millions of people around the world.\n\n\u201cHe was a man of faith, a proud son of Georgia, and a patriotic American who loved his country.
