Kennedy (JFK). Today\u2019s announcement follows President Trump\u2019s failure to meet last week\u2019s Congressionally mandated deadline for a final decision as to which documents would be released.\n\u201cPresident Trump failed to meet a deadline set in federal law 25 years ago when he decided last week to delay release of some documents associated with the assassination of John F. Kennedy. That kind of slothful approach to meeting a legal dictate is not how it works. If he wanted additional review of sensitive materials, that review should have taken place before last week\u2019s deadline. I will be introducing legislation to enforce the Congressionally mandated deadline and require the President to immediately release all documents. \u00a0All of the records have been reviewed and the reviewers know what they propose to be redacted. That should take six days, not six months.\u201d \nThe JFK Records Collection Act was signed into law in October 1992 and mandated release of all records within 25 years unless their release would be more harmful than the public\u2019s legitimate interest in them.
