Planners are calling the eight-mile route, which will include the construction of 28 new transit stations, the Innovation Corridor.See my release about this major, transformative transit newshere.\nSeeking Answers from Governor Lee about Unspent Funding forLow-IncomeFamilies\nAlso Wednesday, I wrote to Governor Bill Lee with questions about why Tennessee  the 10thpoorest state in the nation has not spenthundreds of millions of federal dollarsallocated throughthe Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF) programto help low-income families. Tennessee is the only state in the nation to accumulate an estimated $700 million dollar TANF reserve. This is a big deal to struggling Tennesseans, and the funds should be immediately dispersed in bold ways to assist families in need. See my release containing the letterhere.\nCalling Attention to Open Enrollment for Affordable Care Act Health Coverage\nOpen Enrollment for 2020 Affordable Care Act (ACA) health insurance coverage began last Friday, November 1, and ends December 15, which is closer than you might think. The TrumpAdministration reduced the open enrollment period by six weeks after taking office and is keeping that limited window of opportunity again this year. I have scheduled a Congress On Your Corner for Friday, November 22, at the Benjamin L. Hooks Central Library, 3030 Poplar Avenue, so that my District Office staff and an ACA navigator can help with the process, as well as with questions about other federal agencies and programs. My friend Congressman Bennie G. Thompson of Mississippi, Chairman of the Committee, presided over an examination of the August 7 raids at seven poultry processing plants, the largest one-state immigration raid in American history. I asked about the Trump Administration's enforcement policies that ignore existing guidance on minimizing the impact of these raids on American communities. In the United States alone, an estimated 5.2 million have Alzheimer's, and thousands more have other age-related dementias. I have long supported increased research funding on the disease and efforts to delay the onset of dementia.
