I was on\u00a0MSNBC,\u00a0CNN and\u00a0Fox News this week to discuss this topic and wrote and op-ed for The Hill which you can read\u00a0here.\nAnnouncing the Beginning of the Open Enrollment Period for the Healthcare.gov Marketplace\nTuesday was the first day of the open enrollment period for the\u00a0Healthcare.gov insurance marketplace for 2017 plan shopping and comparison. Visit\u00a0my website for more information on getting covered for 2017.\u00a0\nOpening a new VA Clinic in Memphis\nYesterday, I attended the ribbon cutting ceremony for the new VA Primary Care Clinic on Nonconnah Boulevard near I-240. This new facility is much larger than the old facility that was housed on Raines Road and will include all primary care clinic operations including physicians, nurses, technicians and administrative staff members. It will allow the Memphis VA to expand its services and improve primary care for our veterans.\u00a0\nCelebrating the Grand Opening of the Midtown Kroger\nOn Wednesday, I attended the ribbon cutting ceremony for the new Kroger in Midtown. The architects did a marvelous job of making the store consistent with the architecture and character of the neighborhood. I brought with me a picture (above) from the Memphis Press-Scimitar of me and my mom at the 1952 opening of the Kroger store in Poplar Plaza.\u00a0\nTuesday, November 8 is Election Day!\nTuesday, November 8 is Election Day for the State and Federal General Election. I voted during early voting, and I encourage everyone to vote as well.\u00a0\n2016 Federal Procurement Fair for Small Business Owners\nOn Monday, November 7th from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the FedEx Institute of Technology at University of Memphis, I will be hosting my 2016 Federal Procurement Fair for Small Businesses. During this time, small businesses will learn about doing business with the federal government as well as network with other small businesses.\u00a0Today is the last day to RSVP at\u00a0cohen.procurement@mail.house.gov if you would like to attend the event. The federal funding will be awarded to eligible nonprofits and governmental organizations that demonstrate a successful track record of nutrition programs and develop innovative systems that can be replicated by other underserved communities.
