This decision is mean spirited and could be devastating to many 9th District residents. These subsidies make health insurance coverage affordable for millions of Americans, including more than 155,000 Tennessee residents who receive an average of more than $1,200 annually through the ACA. Read my full statement\u00a0here.\n\t\t\t\tSafeguarding the Freedom of the Press\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\tPresident\u2019s Trump\u2019s tweets this week challenging the license of\u00a0NBC News and other news networks and his comments on Thursday attacking the freedom of the press during his meeting with Canadian Prime Minister\u00a0Justin Trudeau\u00a0in the Oval Office are a direct attack on the First Amendment and continue a dangerous pattern of the President undermining the Constitution. Read my full statement\u00a0here.\n\t\t\t\tProtecting Our Environment\n\t\t\t\tOn Wednesday, President Trump announced that he would repeal the Clean Power Plan, the first and only federal limit on carbon pollution from existing power plants. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Scott Pruitt and President Trump have decided to burden taxpayers with the costs of climate change, increasingly frequent and severe instances of extreme weather, and air pollution. Read my full statement\u00a0here.\u00a0\n\t\t\t\tParticipating in a Forum on Long-Term Effects of Football-Related Brain Injuries \n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\tOn Friday, I participating in a forum hosted by the House Judiciary Committee Democrats and House Energy and Commerce Committee Democrats on the long-term effects of football-related brain injuries. The forum focused on recent studies highlighting advances in sports research for traumatic brain injuries incurred from contact sports and pathways to move forward. Watch my remarks\u00a0here. Watch the full forum\u00a0here.\u00a0\n\t\t\t\tIntroducing the Horse Transportation Safety Act\n\t\t\t\tOn Thursday, Congressman Walter Jones (R-NC) and I introduced the Horse Transportation Safety Act. This bipartisan legislation would prohibit interstate transportation of horses in a motor vehicle containing two or more levels stacked on top of one another. When we allow animals to be mistreated or disrespected, we also devalue our own humanity. All 9th District residents should be aware of precautionary measures that can help ensure their financial security.\u00a0\n\t\t\t\tIf you believe your data may have been compromised, there are steps you can take. These include: regularly monitoring your accounts, creating additional alerts for your credit report, and placing a security freeze on your credit report, which prevents others from opening up accounts in your name without your knowledge.
