My thoughts go out to the victims of this senseless tragedy and their families. I cosponsored legislation to prohibit bump stocks, like the one the Las Vegas shooter used to convert a semi-automatic rifles into the equivalent of a machine gun, but I hope Congress will go further. I responded to the shooting by urging Congress to pass common sense gun laws, such as no-fly-no-buy and restrictions on certain assault weapons and high-capacity magazines. The GOP Budget sets our country back by cutting vital programs to many Americans, having insufficient investment in the National Institutes of Health (NIH), giving huge tax cuts to millionaires and billionaires, and more. This bill would create a pilot grant program to assist state and local law enforcement agencies in developing safe and effective body-worn camera programs that also protect civilians\u2019 privacy rights. This bill would be an important step in rebuilding trust between police and the communities they serve. Last month, the House of Representatives passed my amendment to include an additional $4 million in the Fiscal Year 2018 House appropriations package for SAKI funding nationally. This bill infringes on the rights of women that are included in Roe v. Wade.
