In September, Chairman Comer issued three subpoenas for Hunter and James Biden\u2019s personal and business bank records.\n\nIn 2018, James Biden received $600,000 in loans from, Americore\u2014a financially distressed and failing rural hospital operator. According to bankruptcy court documents, James Biden received these loans \u201cbased upon representations that his last name, \u2018Biden,\u2019 could \u2018open doors\u2019 and that he could obtain a large investment from the Middle East based on his political connections.\u201d\n\nOn March 1, 2018, Americore wired a $200,000 loan into James and Sara Biden\u2019s personal bank account \u2013 not their business bank account. On the same day, James Biden wrote a $200,000 check from this same personal bank account to Joe Biden.\n\nChairman Comer released a video outlining this direct payment and the questions President Biden must answer for the American people.\n\nWatch the full video here.\n\nBelow are Chairman Comer\u2019s remarks:\n\nThis summer, Joe Biden said: \u201cWhere\u2019s the money?\u201d\n\nWell, we found some.\n\nWe\u2019re still digging into evidence subpoenaed from bank accounts belonging to Hunter Biden, the son of President Joe Biden, and James and Sara Biden \u2013 the brother and sister-in-law of the President.\n\nA document that we\u2019re releasing today raises new questions about how President Biden personally benefited from his family\u2019s shady influence peddling of his name and their access to him.\n\nBank records obtained by the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability have revealed a $200,000 direct payment from James and Sara Biden to Joe Biden in the form of a personal check.\n\nHere is some important context about this check we\u2019ve obtained in our investigation:\n\nIn 2018, James Biden received $600,000 in loans from, Americore\u2014a financially distressed and failing rural hospital operator.\n\nAccording to bankruptcy court documents, James Biden received these loans \u201cbased upon representations that his last name, \u2018Biden,\u2019 could \u2018open doors\u2019 and that he could obtain a large investment from the Middle East based on his political connections.\u201d\n\nOn March 1, 2018, Americore wired a $200,000 loan into James and Sara Biden\u2019s personal bank account \u2013 not their business bank account.\n\nAnd then on the very same day, James Biden wrote a $200,000 check from this same personal bank account to Joe Biden.\n\nJames Biden wrote this check to Joe Biden as a \u201cloan repayment.\u201d Americore\u2014a distressed company\u2014loaned money to James Biden who then sent it to Joe Biden.\n\nEven if this was a personal loan repayment, it\u2019s still troubling that Joe Biden\u2019s ability to be paid back by his brother depended on the success of his family\u2019s shady financial dealings.\n\nSome immediate questions President Biden must answer for the American people:\n\nDoes he have documents proving he lent such a large sum of money to his brother and what were the terms of such financial arrangement?\n\nDid he have similar financial arrangements with other family members that led them to make similar large payments to him?\n\nDid he know that the same day James Biden wrote him a check for $200,000, James Biden had just received a loan for the exact same amount from business dealings with a company that was in financial distress and failing?\n\nThe House Oversight Committee will soon announce our next investigative actions and continue to follow the money.\n\nThe bank records don\u2019t end here.", 1, "2026-03-30T01:40:41Z", "2026-04-08T00:49:26Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://comer.house.gov/2023/10/comer-releases-evidence-of-direct-payment-to-joe-biden"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 0.6810429040342569, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
