While I was disappointed in the irregularities experienced in the initial vote count, it is also critical to understand that a thorough and transparent recount of close to 5,000 voting ballots occurred under the presence of OAS and EU electoral observation missions. In the days ahead, I encourage all parties to present concerns or challenges through the available legal channels with adherence to the rule of law. Strong democratic institutions that respect the will of citizens to express their views peacefully is vital for Honduras prosperity.
