Luis Correa", "C001110", "correa.house.gov", "correa", "https://correa.house.gov/news/press-releases", "scraper", "WASHINGTON, D.C. \u2014 Today, Representative Lou Correa (CA-46), the top Democrat on the House Border Security and Enforcement Subcommittee, and member of the House Immigration Integrity, Security, and Enforcement Subcommittee, issued the following statement in response to ongoing negotiations regarding the President\u2019s supplemental aid package and called on Senate Republican negotiators to come back to the table with realistic border management proposals:\n\n\u201cHaving watched these negotiations unfold over the past several weeks, it has become increasingly clear that many of my colleagues have decided to put our national security\u2014and that of our allies\u2014at risk for nothing more than short-term political gain,\u201d Correa said. \u201cTo say I\u2019m saddened would be an understatement.\u201d\n\n\u201cThere are currently 11 million people living in this country who lack a real pathway to citizenship, many of whom have called this nation home for over three decades and have contributed millions in tax revenue to our nation,\u201d he added. \u201cProposing their deportation as a border management solution is untenable, unacceptable, and un-American.\u201d\n\n\u201cLet\u2019s be clear: in October, the President put forward a supplemental funding request that included significant investments in border security which has yet to be put up for a floor vote by my Republican colleagues\u2014despite their cries that the President is neglecting our southern border. Their inaction has made our border less secure, and less humane,\u201d he concluded. \u201cI condemn this attempt to terrorize immigrant communities, cut off legal pathways, and turn our back on refugees fleeing violence and persecution in the strongest possible terms.
