Craig began her push to secure the funding in April as part of her work to promote public safety in Shakopee.\n\nThe federal funding comes through the Department of Justice\u2019s Law Enforcement Mental Health and Wellness Act (LEMHWA) Program, which recognizes the importance of officers\u2019 mental health and well-being in addition to physical health.\n\n\u201cExpanding access to mental health resources has been a major focus of my work with the City of Shakopee and Chief Tate, and that\u2019s why I pushed for this federal funding to promote law enforcement mental health and well-being,\u201d said Rep. Craig. \u201cThese dollars will go directly towards providing support to Shakopee police officers and their families, and I\u2019ll keep working to secure additional resources.\u201d\n\n\u201cWe are extremely happy to be receiving this grant. Officer wellness is a major priority and this grant will allow us to take our initiatives to the next level,\u201d said Shakopee Police Chief Jeff Tate.\n\nLast year, Rep. Craig helped pass the bipartisan Public Safety Officer Support Act to expand benefits for officers with work-related post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and for families of officers who die by trauma-linked suicide.\n\nRep.
