This grant funding is made possible through the U.S. Department of Justice\u2019s Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program, which helps local governments support a broad range of activities to prevent and control crime based on their own local needs and conditions.\n\n\u201cNo one knows the day-to-day challenges facing our law enforcement officers better than our officers and local leaders. This grant will help ensure the City of Burnsville is able to access the resources and support it needs to address the unique challenges and obstacles facing its own forces,\u201d said Representative Craig. \u201cSupporting our local law enforcement is key to keeping our communities safe \u2013 and I\u2019m proud to be able to announce this critical funding today.\u201d\n\n\u201cEvery city faces unique public safety challenges \u2013 and I\u2019m thrilled that Burnsville will be receiving this funding to ensure that we are able to take on these challenges in a safe and effective manner,\u201d said Burnsville Mayor Elizabeth Kautz. \u201cThis grant will increase our law enforcement\u2019s capacity to prevent and combat crime. I\u2019m grateful for Representative Craig\u2019s efforts to ensure Burnsville was able to secure this critical funding.\u201d\n\nLast year, Representative Craig voted to increase funding to the Edward Byrne Memorial JAG Grant Program by $190.5 million \u2013 a nearly 40% increase for this law enforcement-focused program from the previous fiscal year\u2019s enacted funding level. This increased investment was signed into law shortly thereafter.\n\nThe Edward Byrne Memorial JAG Program allows states and units of local government, including tribes, to support a broad range of activities to prevent and control crime based on their own state and local needs and conditions. Last year, Representative Craig helped the cities of Burnsville, Inver Grove Heights, and West St. Paul receive more than $34,000 in public safety funding through the program.
