Eli Crane (R-AZ) gave a breakdown of the spending fight from Washington, DC.\n\nWATCH HERE\n\nStating his reasons for not supporting yesterday\u2019s procedural vote on the appropriations bill for the Department of Defense, Rep. Crane said, \u201cThe status quo, the swampiness in this town, is so ingrained that if you don\u2019t forcibly stop it, it will continue.\u201d\n\nAs our country faces a financial crisis, Rep. Crane reiterated his position that passing any appropriations bills without first agreeing on a top line spending number for FY24 is foolish.\n\n\u201cJust this week, we hit $33 trillion in national debt. We have at least a $2 trillion deficit every single year in perpetuity going forward. And you could argue it\u2019s $3 trillion a year because of the money we have to spend on interest\u2026\u201d\n\n\u201cThe other reason I didn\u2019t vote for that bill was because of the money still going to Ukraine in the DOD [appropriations] bill\u2013it was about $300 million [\u2026] People in my district, people all over the country are so tired of funding other, never ending wars while we don\u2019t have a southern border, our own infrastructure is falling apart, and we continue to spend and spend and spend money that we don\u2019t have.\u201d\n\nOn the road ahead:\n\n\u201cThere is a little bit of hope\u2013yesterday afternoon, after shutting everything down, about twenty of us got in a room that were conservatives and moderates, and we\u2019re now working on the appropriations bills as we should have been doing for months and months and months.\u201d\n\n###", 1, "2026-03-30T01:40:41Z", "2026-04-08T00:37:48Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://crane.house.gov/2023/09/22/media-press-releases-crane-lasting-change-must-be-forced/"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 1.443530898541212, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
