The Crist amendment, which passed by a vote of 297-121, would clarify that projects to address harmful algae blooms, such as red tide, are eligible for, and more likely to receive, funding from the new grant program created by the underlying bill. This grant program awards funds to states to promote coastal resiliency and address climate change.Last year, Pinellas County was hit hard by red tide  harming our beaches, our wildlife, and our economy. As Floridians, we must pursue all avenues to combat this threat head-on,said Rep. Crist. This amendment prioritizes red tide mitigation and eradication projects as we redouble our efforts in The People's House to fight climate change and its impact on our coastal communities. H.R. 729, the Coastal and Great Lakes Communities Enhancement Act, is a bipartisan package of bills protecting vulnerable coastal and Great Lakes communities on the front lines of the climate crisis.
